Under the bright lights tonight we celebrate NXT Takeover XXV; with four championships on the line, one stood above the rest. NXT champion Johnny Gargano would defend his newly acquired title in a rematch of epic proportions against Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole. At NXT Takeover: New York both competitors gave everything they had in a breathtaking 2-out-of 3-falls match for the vacated NXT championship. Cole defeated the resilient Gargano to score the first fall of the contest, but the determined underdog would not let anything stand in his way of achieving his destiny. The two men traded blow for blow…

What is CNL? Well, it is a promotion based in Santiago, Chile. Campeonato Nacional de Luch Libre hosts shows regularly at a venue called Club Chocolate and have so for over 3 years now. Previously they held occasional events every two months or so. Now to keep a more steady presence, they tape shows to air weekly via Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch. We start with last week’s episode. Commentators Matias Reyes and former wrestler Nelson Medel welcome us from the DJ booth before going into the first match. CJC vs Sobre2sis Sobre2sis is more literally translated as “sobredosis” or “overdose”.…

As usual with WWL, a new taping tends to present changes to the status quo. This week we have former TNA Spanish commentator Willie Urbina taking over the play by play spot next to longtime friend and partner Axel Cruz. As for the actual wrestling, let’s just say a pair of names left and the company traded up. This edition of the WWL Weekly features the main event of BJ facing Mike Mendoza. After a quick recap and the intro, we go to the opening match of the show. Sweet Nancy vs Genesis Nancy models herself after Monster Ripper who…

One of the things about covering Puerto Rico is that you’ll learn that most of the drama seems to come more from the backstage than from whatever happens on screen. See, last week a peculiar video surfaced showing the WWL Americas Champion Hombre Bestia throwing the title in a garbage bag. Why? He said he did not agree with working a hardcore match for $35. After chatting with both him and WWL, it became clear this was some sort of bid to have another company to give him a bigger paycheck. His agreement was specifically for that amount for any…

WWL rolls on and it’s crunch time for their upcoming big show “Apuesta Letal”. The company is intentionally holding up matches in order to release them closer to the show to raise the hype. After a recap of last week, Justin Dynamite tries to cut a promo but is immediately attacked by Mighty Ursus and we go to the intro. Los Apostadores (Jack Daniels & Mike Piconose) vs The Lights (Gordy & Georgie Light) Los Apostadores [The Gamblers]…

Catching up on the slowly growing WWL High Voltage for 04/20/19 as they seem to be starting a new direction. Some stars are being pushed up the card, top stars are switching roles and the Tag Team scene, while not booming like before, it is gathering more bodies. A conspiracy seems to be afoot as Mike Mendoza, now a heel has been contacted for something. The Champion BJ, however, seems to not be paying much mind to it. A music video recaps the “Fuera De Control” TV taping and thanks to the fans. Commentator Axel Cruz welcomes us to the…

I am finally back to WWC Superstars Of Wrestling, which can be a very ‘old school’ company. By that, I mean that their TV show is still very much treated as simple ads for their live events. There may be promos and matches but the way they are treated is all in the name of getting the viewer to attend a show and not really about telling long-form storytelling. So very often, matches will re-air or entire episodes show matches from years past completely out of context just to fill the time slot. As long as those ads air for…

This is the WWL High Voltage before their next set of tapings titled “Fuera De Control” (Out Of Control). Things have kinda changed since the last episode as a big free agent has been brought in with Justin Dynamite. A very young but very talented second-generation wrestler who was mainly in CWA was crowned Champion but had a falling out with the company. Also, The Melendez Cousins might be on their way out as they might be moving to the US soon. They aren’t on the next set of tapings and a familiar face has seemingly taken their place. Here…
