It’s time once again RetroView fans for WCW’s attempt at cashing in on the prestige and popularity of the WWE’s Royal Rumble event. You guessed it, today I look back at WCW World War 3 1997, featuring their 60-man, three-ring battle royal. The big news heading into this show is that the official main event for Starrcade the following month is Sting versus Hollywood Hulk Hogan. World War 3 is just a pit stop on the road to the biggest and possibly best-built championship match in WCW history. The show opens with Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and Mike Tenay at…
In pro wrestling, there are certain moments that live forever. Moments that transcend the line of greatness into the realm of iconic. For the “Frontman” Jah C or “The Real McCoy” JDX, one of these moments comes this Saturday. On the night of the Black Wrestlers Matter 2 show, during the main event, one of these men will be crowned the inaugural Black Wrestlers Matter Champion. While being the first-ever anything is special. Being the first-ever champion of a rising promotion on the independent wrestling scene is extraordinary. The magnitude of this moment, the opportunity to leave their mark on history,…
RetroView fans, it’s the scariest time of year in our look back at the glory days of WCW. Today’s RetroView covers WCW Halloween Havoc 1997. A month removed from the nWo’s heinous attack on Ric Flair at Fall Brawl, WCW is looking to rebound. In an effort to steal back some much-needed momentum, Commissioner Roddy Piper has scheduled a cage match between him and Hollywood Hogan. Not only will we get the steel cage match, but Diamond Dallas Page and Macho Man Randy Savage look to settle their rivalry in a Las Vegas Death Match. _________________ The show begins with a…

WCW Fall Brawl 1997 | WCW Sunday Night RetroView
WCW RetroView fans, we’ve reached one of my favorite WCW pay-per-view. Today we look back at WCW Fall Brawl 1997. The war between WCW and the nWo is still red hot, but WCW has a player in power with the new commissioner, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. One of his biggest moves is setting up the year’s War Games match. The 1997 edition of the dual-ring 8-man cage match features the Four Horsemen taking on the nWo. Beginning the show is a video package highlighting Arn Anderson’s emotional retirement speech and offering of his spot within the Horsemen to Curt Hennig. It…
WCW Road Wild 1997 | WCW Sunday Night RetroView
We made it WCW fans; today’s WCW RetroView brings us a full year of covering WCW pay-per-views. The first WCW RetroView focused on Hog Wild 1996; we take a look at WCW Road Wild 1997. Emanating from the world-famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, this outdoor event always has a unique feel to it. The show opens with a video package detailing Lex Luger’s monumental WCW World Championship victory over Hollywood Hogan. Taking place on the Nitro before Road Wild, the victory was a huge blow to the nWo’s reign of terror. Something Tony Schiavone emphasizes by saying, “WCW is poised to end…
Impact Pro Wrestling fans, the time has finally arrived. This Saturday, May 8th, the stars of IPW return to the Forte Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The COVID pandemic forced IPW and most pro wrestling promotions to find ways to entertain their fans without those fans in attendance. IPW dealt with social distancing by presenting their fans with Facebook live shows. This Saturday night, IPW welcomes back their fans with an action-packed show. Not only is it IPW’s first show at the Forte Center in over a year, but it’s also Impact Pro Wrestling’s 20th Anniversary Show. Let’s look at the…
With his back against the wall and career on the line, Johnny Wisdom delivered the goods last night. The 17-year veteran, by hook or by crook, defeated the One Called Manders to become the new SCWPro Heavyweight Champion. Their monumental showdown capped off an exciting night of SCWPro action. This was SCWPro’s first show with fans since September 2020, and there was a certain buzz in the air. As Johnny Wisdom wins SCWPro Championship. From the opening match to this enthralling main event, you could tell the wrestlers had an extra skip in their step. What a main event this was. Leading up…
World Championship Wrestling fans, we are back for the second week in row with another WCW RetroView. This time we are diving into WCW Bash at the Beach 1997, and let me tell you, this is a fun show. After months of being M.I.A, WCW World Champion Hollywood Hogan is finally stepping back in the ring. But he isn’t coming alone; joining him in celebration of the nefarious nWo’s one-year anniversary is NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman. _______________ The dastardly duo takes on WCW flag bearer’s Lex Luger and The Giant in the main event. Also, Diamond Dallas Page continues…
World Championship Wrestling fans, we are finally back. After a month’s hiatus, due to the WWE Network going kaput and Peacock slowly gaining vintage shows, we pick up on our WCW RetroView. Today we are looking at WCW Great American Bash 1997. Fresh off the heels of Slamboree, Hollywood Hogan is still AWOL as World Champion. The nWo is focused on the tag team titles as two icons look to take those titles away. Oh, and let’s not forget the Diamond Dallas Page – Macho Man Randy Savage rivalry is as hot as ever. ________________________ Our favorite announcing trio, Tony…
