This past week I’ve been on an ECW binge. It’s partly due to nostalgia. It’s also in part due to keeping my WWE Network subscription active. As someone who spent my late teens and early twenties trading ECW VHS tapes via connections on the internet, I wasn’t pleased when I found out WWE would be purchasing the ECW library. It was all no big surprise to me, though. I really don’t consider myself much of a purist when it comes to the old days, but I didn’t like the idea of the music changing. To me, the theme songs are…
The follow-up to the first Action Arcade was just as much of a good time! Week two featured something new to go along with all of the action. The Scoreboard with Scott Holladay is an addition to the Arcade that will air each Saturday. The segment provides the standings of all CHIKARA competitors in line for a shot at the Grand Championship. This is CHIKARA Action Arcade Review for Episode 2. Making it to the top of the Scoreboard and earning three points for a title shot is one thing, but current CHIKARA Grand Champion Dasher Hatfield has ‘legally’ aligned…
CHIKARA Action Arcade Episode 1: Review
Saturday morning wrestling was a big thing when I was a kid. Especially when I was a little older and cartoons didn’t do it for me anymore, there was Saturday morning wrestling to look forward to. CHIKARA has a pretty good grip on my nostalgia. Their Action Arcade series is a good time and a nice weekend escape that hits all the right buttons for me as a fan. We present CHIKARA Action Arcade Episode 1. The Action Arcade airs every Saturday morning at 11 am on CHIKARAtopia and IWTV. Meant to be a project that helps keep the promotion…
We’ve made it to a point where our sanity’s tested almost daily. You’ve got access to the perfect form of escapism to tune out your troubles, though. There’s always going to be wrestling to provide entertainment when everything seems uncertain. It’s debatable whether or not one should consider wrestling an ‘essential service’. However, I also know how I feel as a fan. I need wrestling every day, especially now. Here is the Social Distancing Wrestling Watchlist for 5/3/20. Here’s what I watched this week while maintaining my mental stability and social distance: Social Distancing Wrestling Watchlist for 5/3/20 ACTION Wrestling…
We’ve made it to the end of April! I don’t know about you, but spring fever and cabin fever are both hitting me hard these days. I’ve gotten antsy spending so much time inside. The best remedy for this, though, is to watch more wrestling. When I say this, I mean to go outside your comfort zone, too. Watch wrestling promotions you’ve never followed. Get yourself caught up in a whole new culture while you’ve got a little time to catch up. Here’s my Social Distancing Wrestling Watchlist! This week’s Wrestling Watchlist focuses on shows that I enjoyed watching (or…
Are you looking for something a little more gratifying than marathoning yet another season of a Nextflix/Hulu/Prime show? Maybe you feel like you need a little more to get you through the week than waiting for wrestling on Monday and Wednesday and Friday nights? Times aren’t getting any easier as we push through these days of quarantine, and it might be time to diversify your viewing habits. Here is our debut edition of the Social Distancing Wrestling Watchlist. After this week of drama and tragedy and general disorder in wrestling, we could all use a moment to get back to…
WrestleMania weekend has come to a close and the wrestling world is now in a state of upheaval. With so much uncertainty at the moment, there’s a lot left in the air regarding the continued cancellations of both mainstream and independent wrestling events. As the summer approaches, numerous promotions have already called off shows that were to happen in May. WWE and AEW are scrambling to find creative ways to continue holding events. Independent wrestling, however, has been devastated by the drastic changes that rapidly played out around the world. This includes Joey Janela comments about Spring Break. Joey Janela…
Review: GCW’s The Acid Cup 2
GCW Presents The Acid Cup 2 Now is the most trying time for independent wrestlers. The pain of canceled bookings is hitting many people overwhelmingly hard, and the great minds and greater hearts at Game Changer Wrestling stepped up to help ease the struggle as best as they can. GCW reintroduced the Acid Cup tournament, named in tribute to the late Trent Acid. This second tournament would also serve as an opportunity for the wrestling community to give back to its hard-working performers. Fans could not attend this event but instead were provided a link for donations. All donations are…
Nashville, Tennessee recently suffered considerable damage and loss after a tornado tore its way through the capital city. The devastation toll included the Basement East, home of Southern Underground Pro. For some time afterward it was uncertain if the March 15th show would go on, but there was good news in the end. This weekend’s show takes place instead at Exit/In, and this will be the first time the venue has hosted a wrestling event. The tremendous card lined up for the show will be fitting for a first-time experience, too! The show will be streaming live on Sunday, March…
