In the history of the WWE Intercontinental Championship part two, the discussion turns to what happened after stripping Shawn Michaels of the title, the WWF Intercontinental Championship. The company held a battle royal to crown a new Intercontinental Champion. Razor Ramon and Rick Martel were the final two and faced off the following week. Ramon defeated Martel in his reign. Shortly after, HBK returned, staking his claim to the WWE Intercontinental Championship, even carrying his own version. Razor and Michaels would feud until Wrestlemania X, which culminated in a ladder match in which Ramon became the “undisputed” champion by retrieving…
Since its inception, the WWE Intercontinental Championship history has seen a number of designs, rivalries, but most importantly, champions. It has been described as the ‘working man’s title’ for others considered a token of appreciation for a job well done. A key to the main event, a gimmick maker, a career definer, a groundbreaker, and a show-stealer. Held by no less than a dozen Hall of Famers, the WWE Intercontinental Championship has been a cornerstone of the WWE. The AWA merged its World Title with WCWA’s World Heavyweight Championship and created the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship on December 13, 1988, at Super Clash 3. Reigning AWA Champion Jerry Lawler defeated Kerry Von Erich, unifying the two titles in one. In March 1988, before the title unification, Iceman King Parsons won the WCWA World Champion, defeating Kerry Von Erich. The USWA…
It’s a new day in the ongoing history of black world wrestling champions! Yes, it is for Kofi Kingston, anyway. Kingston went into his match with Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) seeking his first WWE (World) Championship at WrestleMania 35. With his defeat of Bryan, he won not only his first world title but he also became the first African American to hold the WWE Title. That is if you ignore Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Further complicating any claim to being first is the acquisition of WCW by Vince McMahon, which created two world titles in WWE. That, along with the…
