WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle has given permission to UFC star Colby Covington to use his famous “You Suck” theme song this weekend.

Colby will be facing off against former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler in the main event of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night, emanating from Newark, NJ. And the man who aided as the intermediary in this deal? None other than Bobby Lashley.

Covington made a few appearances for Impact Wrestling in 2017, with other America Top Team members. Bobby Lashley was in the company at the time and was part of the angle that Colby was involved in. From there they have forged a strong friendship.

Ariel Helwani, one of the world’s foremost MMA journalists, explained in detail –

“Colby Covington reached out, through a friend, to Kurt Angle, the former WWE Champion, who’s theme song was very popular while he was an active wrestler. It was popular because fans loved to chant ‘You suck!’ in the middle of the theme song. So the song would go something like ‘dun da da dun dun, you suck, you suck’ – the fans just couldn’t help themselves. He has asked Kurt if he can use that song because he wants people to chant ‘You suck!’ as he makes his way to the cage. So that’s a guy who clearly is very comfortable being booed.”

Blake’s Take: Kurt’s theme song is one of the most recognizable in wrestling. I’ve seen it played at a few basketball games, and even over here in the United Kingdom at other sporting events. UFC has a HUGE worldwide reach, and I’m sure that has played a part in giving Colby access. Fans across the world wondering what that song is. Shazaming it and finding out it came from a WWE wrestler. All of a sudden you have possible fresh new eyes on the product. Great marketing!
