One of the most infamous sayings in wrestling is “never say never.” Well in 2014, CM Punk left the WWE and wrestling as a whole, never to return. Fast forward almost six years later and it seems that never is dead. No, he’s not coming back to the WWE itself, but to wrestling. It was announced by Renee Young on Tuesday’s WWE Backstage that CM Punk has joined their ranks on Fox Sports 1 (FS1.)

The iconic opening to Cult of Personality by Living Colour began to play in the studio, to the surprise of WWE Superstars Samoa Joe, Adam Cole and Paige. Through the doors came Chicago’s own CM Punk. To end the show, Punk had this to say: “It’s as simple as this: just when they think they have all the answers, I change the culture. I’ll see you here next week.” An ode to Punk’s hero, Rowdy Roddy Piper, as he embarks on this new endeavor with FS1.

Punk’s first episode will be next week on WWE Backstage, which airs at 11:00 PM Eastern, 8:00 PM Pacific. It was even acknowledged on the main WWE Twitter account and on their website.
Brandi’s Breakdown:
What does this mean? Besides the collective wrestling world collectively losing their shit? Well, only CM Punk really knows. We’ve waited almost six years for his return and it was certainly not in this capacity we expected. Punk has recently acknowledged in multiple interviews that he hadn’t fully ruled out a return to wrestling. Due to the way things ended with WWE, the reaction to his first podcast interview on the Art of Wrestling (lawsuit), Punk being allowed to speak his mind is a pipebomb waiting to happen. A lot of things have changed in WWE and across the entire wrestling landscape since CM Punk left.
If he would ever get in the ring again, we don’t know. But we do know that he won’t pull any punches when it comes to talking about the current WWE product.
