Retro Review: SHIMMER Volume 2
This week we return to our retro SHIMMER review series with Volume 2, the back half of the first SHIMMER taping. We have the same roster as in Volume 1, and sadly we will be seeing the last of Beth Phoenix in these reviews. She was given a developmental contract with WWE through OVW at this time. If you want to watch through the SHIMMER archives, the best way to do so is at Streamshimmer.com. We open with a promo by Lacey, accusing Daizee of cheating to beat her, and saying she’s winning the four-way main event. Krissy Vaine vs.…
Dawn of a New Era opens with a highlight reel recapping Wrestle Queendom 2. After the package, Emily Read announcing a quarter-final match in a number one contender’s tournament. Charli Evans vs. Kanji This match has a twenty-minute time limit, and it is Kanji’s first singles match in EVE. Nina Samuels joins Dann Read on commentary. Evans takes control early and cuts off a short comeback by Kanji after a flurry of kick-based offense. Evans works over Kanji’s left arm. She continues to dominate until Kanji pulls a DDT-like maneuver out and begins a comeback. A springboard elbow before a…
Retro Review: SHIMMER Volume 1
In November 2020, SHIMMER will celebrate its 15th anniversary. Founded by Dave Prazak and Allison Danger, SHIMMER has been the premier American promotion for women’s wrestling since its inception. With that in mind, I want to go back to where it began and look over SHIMMER’s catalog. SHIMMER has been home to some absolutely amazing talent, and several of their matches are all-time classics. SHIMMER’s back catalog can be found at Streamshimmer.com. It’s time to look over SHIMMER Volume 1. Volume 1 Before the show begins, we have a brief introduction followed by the whole roster coming out to the ring.…
On Sunday at York Hall, Pro-Wrestling: EVE put on their biggest show of the year, Wrestle Queendom II. The card was stacked, and the event, on the whole, was great. It was a night full of elation and sorrow, and it will be a night of huge ramifications for EVE going forward. Enough preamble; time to review this show. To kick off the show, Rhia O’Reilly and Emily Read introduce the show. Most importantly, they introduce Sierra Loxton as the special commentator for the night. Loxton was injured earlier in June at EVE’s She Rules event, but it was good…
RISE 13 – LEGENDARY was the largest card of women’s wrestling talent ever assembled for a show. 59 women stepped in the ring in a wrestling or managerial role, with two more on commentary. Among the matches, that night was a 30-woman RISE of the Contender battle royal for a future shot at the Phoenix of RISE Championship. The third entry in that match was making her North American debut: Fearless Charlie Morgan. Charlie Morgan was a big get for RISE and SHIMMER that weekend. Fans of both promotions had been clamoring to have her brought over, and when we…
Last year’s Wrestle Queendom was the largest all-women wrestling event in European history with Wrestle Queendom II. It was a tremendous card and fantastic show headlined by Charlie Morgan vs. Sammii Jayne for the EVE Championship. If you’ve never watched EVE, this show is the perfect introduction to what the promotion is about: punk, feminist women’s wrestling and showing why they do it better than the guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETBcUtaO7uY Wrestle Queendom II promises to be an incredible sequel, as EVE returns to York Hall on June 30th. Last year’s show went big with gimmicks, including a ladder match and a War…
