Notorious Notes: Chapter 13 – Fear Itself
Chapter 13: Fear Itself Spooky season has come to a close (officially) but the real spooky season is the movies we watched along the way, and you can keep that spookiness with you all year round by watching horror movies and presenting blood sacrifices to the beings of our nightmares at any time. In case you were wondering, I did the thing — #31MoviesIn31Days was a success! I actually accomplished 31 movies in 30 days, which allowed me to check out a local haunted house on the most hallowed of eves. It was alright. Fun, silly and a tad bit…
3Spoopy | Notorious Notes: Chapter 12
The 31 Movies in 31 Days marathon continues as we are quickly approaching the end of Spook-tober. As of this writing, I am coming hot off the heels of a Critters marathon that started with the newest one (a new Critters movie in 2019?!) and then going through the others in order. Critters 4 was my 24th movie for this round of 31 Movies and I’m fairly ahead of the game at this point, which is good since I’m going on vacation soon and probably won’t want to spend it watching horror movies. This is 3Spoopy. And now that the…
Notorious Notes: Chapter 11 – 2Spoopy
Chapter 11: 2Spoopy It’s that time of year again; Spooky Season. October means a lot of my favorite things become trendy and I am labeled “Basic AF.” Pumpkin spice, Halloween candy, scary movies, haunted houses, etc. I love them all. October kicks off my favorite three-month stretch that includes 31 days of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my birthday (in that order). Halloween month is what I will be discussing in this blog because it is currently happening and at the front of my awareness. Two years ago, on a whim, I decided to try watching a spooky/scary movie every day…
Chapter 10: Swing and a Miss “Play around with your art — try something new.” That was one of the closing lines for the previous chapter of Notorious Notes. Chapter 9 was all about taking chances and embracing risk when it comes to one’s art; no great art was created without involving risk. While I stand by these words, I feel it is important to understand that “risk” does not always equal “reward.” A major part of stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is the chance of failure. When one tries something new and fails, the way they handle and…
Chapter 9: Poetry in Motion As I sit here after writing a ten-page final essay about famous serial killer H. H. Holmes, I am finally able to catch a breath and reflect on the week that was. A lot of things have been going on — wrestling twitter will always find something scandalous to talk about and even the different subsects of the “territories” will create their own specific drama. There have been numerous occasions where pacific northwest wrestling social media has exploded about one person or another and the bad things they have done. This is poetry in motion.…
Represent | Notorious Notes: Chapter 8
Since the last edition of Notorious Notes, your humble author had two vastly different experiences that I am very grateful to have. When mapping out what I wanted the theme for the day to be between these two experiences, I kind of ran into a brick wall. There’s really only one theme that stuck out to me — I hate wrestling fans. Err..well, maybe that’s a little bit too negative. Here we represent. How about “I really enjoy the external perspective of pro wrestling”? As in, I enjoy the unapologetic passion and fun that comes with performing in front of…
Out on a Limb | Notorious Notes: Chapter 7
In a past editions of Notorious Notes, I discussed the idea of luck — the idea that we create our own luck by preparing for the moment an opportunity arises is an oldie but a goodie in my opinion. I formerly talked about how I was afforded opportunities to do extra work for WWE. And to read poetry on a prominent platform at a Prestige show. Now I would like to revisit the concept of opportunity by mixing it with another topic previously visited within my blog. Thom Alman and his first singles outing at Project 42, going out on…
The Other Side | Notorious Notes: Chapter 6
I was feeling aggressively uninspired as far as topics go for this edition of Notorious Notes and I could go more in-depth about the upcoming Project 42 show that I am main eventing, but that seems like a shill and a job for someone else. I could discuss cat dad things like how I discovered my cat, Poutine, plays fetch. This was my experience on the other side. But I find that very difficult to tie back into wrestling without stretching further than my body and mind will allow. I could discuss some of the anxiety I’ve been feeling lately. …
In the previous chapters of Notorious Notes, I’ve spoken from my own experiences and attempted to tie it back to wrestling. That’s kind of the point of this whole blog; to discuss my thoughts and feelings and how they relate to wrestling. That can also be a very self-centered concept that, in today’s social media-centered culture, seems par for the course. And while I can only ever share my own experiences, I can also discuss my peers. I am sorely lacking in show experiences to share for this edition. As I have no shows booked in the month of July.…
Solve for X. There were a couple of titles for this chapter that I went back and forth on. I originally wanted to make an allusion to the idiom, “patience is a virtue” but couldn’t come up with a satisfactory play on it. Patience also isn’t the main thing I want to discuss today. I want to discuss what X represents in our little math problem. The old adage goes “luck is preparation meets opportunity”, therefore X equals opportunity and I had a couple of big ones come up since the last edition of Notorious Notes that I would like…
