It is finally that time. It is time for Wrestle Dynasty 2025! The first-ever Wrestle Dynasty show will be held at the Tokyo Dome on January 5th.
On Sunday night, stars from New Japan, Stardom, ROH, CMLL, and AEW will compete. It will be great to see some of the best wrestlers in the world from multiple promotions on this unique super card.
The Wrestle Dynasty card is a truly stacked card that has been built well in the last few months at New Japan events.
The main card will have nine matches, eight titles on the line, and the in-ring return of Kenny Omega after a thirteen-month absence!
It will be wonderful to see multiple promotions begin what should be an exciting 2025 in professional wrestling! Here is the preview of Wrestle Kingdom 19:
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Kickoff Match 1: International Women’s Cup:
Willow Nightingale (AEW) vs. Persephone (CMLL) vs. Athena (ROH) vs. Momo Watanabe (Stardom)
The night of action will begin with the International Women’s Cup. Four promotions (AEW, CMLL, ROH and Stardom) held qualifiers for this special match.
A total of 28 female wrestlers from around the world competed to enter this match at Wrestle Dynasty. Just four wrestlers will compete on Sunday night.
Athena, the ROH Women’s Champion, would seem to have the experience advantage as a 17-year veteran. But Persephone, Willow Nightingale and Momo Watanabe have built up impressive resumes as well.
The winner of this match will get a Women’s Championship match from a promotion of their choosing. The stakes are certainly high.
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Kickoff Match 2:
ROH World Tag Team Championship: The Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara) (c) vs. House of Torture (Sho and Yoshinobu Kanemaru)
On the heels of defending the ROH World Tag Team Championship at Final Battle in a Bullrope match, Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara will come to Wrestle Dynasty.
It will be Dustin Rhodes first match in the Tokyo Dome since 1993! Their opponents on Sunday night are Sho and Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
They are members of House of Torture, a group that are certainly not above winning by any means possible. Can Rhodes and Guevara overcome the underhanded tactics and leave Japan with their tag team titles?
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Lucha Gauntlet Match
The biggest mystery on the Wrestle Dynasty card is the “Lucha Gauntlet Match.” What we do know is that four CMLL wrestlers and four NJPW wrestlers will compete on Sunday in this match.
The competitors will enter the ring after one-minute intervals, and the first pinfall/submission wins. It should be fast-paced and chaotic in the Tokyo Dome!
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Winner Takes All match for the Strong Women’s Championship and the Undisputed British Women’s Championship:
Mercedes Moné (c) (Strong) vs. Mina Shirakawa (c) (British)
Mercedes Moné certainly had an epic year in 2024. She won the AEW TBS Championship in her very first match in over a year. At Forbidden Door, she won the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship as well.
In the course of this year, she has defended her two titles a grand total of fourteen times. It is an impressive feat for sure.
At Wrestle Dynasty, she will face Stardom’s Mina Shirakawa. Shirakawa had a great 2024 as well. She wrestled in multiple promotions around the world. She fought for the IWGP and AEW Women’s World titles.
She was part of the Artist of Stardom Champions for over four months. And in August, she won the Undisputed British Women’s Championship. It is clear that wrestling fans wanted Mina.
On Sunday night, both competitors will be fighting in the Tokyo Dome for the first time ever. After an impressive 2024, who will leave Wrestle Dynasty with two titles?
Can Moné become a Triple Champion? Or will Mina finally win her first NJPW singles title? It should be a great match between two of the best in Women’s wrestling.
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
IWGP Tag Team Championship:
Great-O-Khan and TBA vs. The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson)
At World Tag League, the Young Bucks surprised the then IWGP Tag Team Champions, Great-O-Khan and HENARE, with a message.
The Young Bucks declared they would be making their in-ring returns at Wrestle Dynasty and challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championship.
This was a huge surprise since the World Tag League is supposed to determine the Number One Contender.
The Young Bucks jumped the line. They will be fighting for the IWGP Tag Team Championship for the first time since January 4, 2019.
And it will not be Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito, the winners of the World Tag League, facing off for the Tag Titles.
But the Young Bucks won’t face Great-O-Khan and HENARE at Wrestle Dynasty. HENARE got injured during the World Tag League. He and Great-O-Khan had to vacate the titles because of this unfortunate injury.
O-Khan and a mystery partner will be fighting the Young Bucks for the now-vacant tag team titles. The biggest question is, of course, who will be the mystery partner for O-Khan on Sunday night?
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
NEVER Openweight Championship and AEW International Championship:
Konosuke Takeshita or Shingo Takagi (c) vs. Tomohiro Ishii
At Wrestle Kingdom 19, Konosuke Takeshita and Shingo Takagi will face off in what should be a physical match for both the NEVER Openweight Championship and AEW International Championship.
It could be a show stealer on January 4th in the Tokyo Dome. But they certainly won’t get much rest after the match ends.
The winner will have to defend both titles against a rested and motivated Tomohiro Ishii at Wrestle Dynasty the very next night.
Ishii is quite familiar with both men and will be ready. Some reward for the Double Champion indeed.
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Yota Tsuji vs Jack Perry
It was quite a year in 2024 for Yota Tsuji. He won the New Japan Cup, fought for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis, and even made the finals of the prestigious G1 Climax. That is quite impressive for the young Yota.
In the same New Japan Cup, Jack Perry made a run to the quarterfinals. The self-described “Scapegoat” used this experience to later win the AEW TNT Championship at Forbidden Door and he held it for 146 days. But it seems that still wasn’t enough for Perry.
At Fighting Spirit Unleashed, Perry attacked Tsuji. He seems jealous of Yota’s New Japan success. If Yota Tsuji wins the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 19, this match will be for that title as well.
Can Perry open the year with a huge victory and another title win?
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
David Finlay vs Brody King
At Fight Spirit Unleashed, David Finlay issued an open challenge for Wrestle Dynasty. It was quickly answered by AEW’s Brody King. It should be a hard-hitting affair on January 5th.
The two wrestlers have teamed in the past but have never faced each other in singles action. If Finlay can defeat Yota Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom 19, this match at Wrestle Dynasty will also be for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.
Can David Finlay really overcome those daunting odds in back-to-back nights?
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Shota Umino vs. Claudio Castagnoli
In 2019, Jon Moxley took a Young Lion named Shota Umino under his wings. They worked together for years around the world. That is until Umino saw the violent tactics Moxley used to win the AEW World Championship in the Fall of 2024.
He called out Moxley but was surprised by a message from Claudio Castagnoli instead. Castagnoli would be an “emissary” for the Death Riders at Wrestle Dynasty.
Can the 27-year-old Umino prove himself against 44-year-old Castagnoli? And remember, if Umino wins at Wrestle Kingdom, this could also be for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Ricochet
From 2013 to 2017, Zack Sabre Jr. and Ricochet had some epic matches around the world. They faced off in singles action seven times. Zack Sabre Jr. won four times and Ricochet won three matches. It is time to face off yet again at Wrestle Dynasty.
At the end of November’s Power Struggle, Ricochet attacked Sabre Jr. and demanded a match on January 5th. Zack accepted and their rivalry is finally back on after an eight year absence.
He is looking forward to breaking a three match losing streak to Ricochet as well on January 5th. But is it a wise decision? Zack Sabre Jr. will be facing off in a huge match with Shota Umino on January 4th.
If Zack Sabre Jr. wins that match, he will be facing a rested and ready Ricochet for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship the very next day. Is this challenge too much even for the great Zack Sabre Jr.?
Wrestle Dynasty 2025
Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd
At Power Struggle this past November, Kenny Omega made an emotional return to New Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega hadn’t wrestled since December of 2023 and hadn’t wrestled in NJPW in two years.
It was great to see him back in a New Japan ring and ready to fight at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th. Gabriel Kidd, the brash Bullet Club member, has confronted and insulted Omega at any opportunity he gets.
Kenny didn’t appreciate Kidd’s comments and agreed to fight Gabriel Kidd in his very first match in thirteen months in the Tokyo Dome. It is on at Wrestle Dynasty.
Can “The Cleaner” shut up Gabriel Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty? Or will the dangerous Kidd put Omega right back on the shelf yet again? It should be an epic way to end two wonderful nights in the Tokyo Dome.
