Fresh off its debut in the Rochester, N.Y. area, Empire State Wrestling (ESW) returns to its stomping grounds in North Tonawanda, N.Y. for its next event “Sky is The Limit.” The event is aptly named as it will feature a pair of high-flying Mexican wrestling stars.
“Sky is The Limit” will be held on Saturday, March 30 at the St. Johnsburg Fire Hall. All-Elite Wrestling (AEW) signees The Lucha Bros will be in action, as well as fellow signee and Major League Wrestling’s (MLW) Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
The Lucha Bros, consisting of Pentagon and Rey Fenix, will be facing To Infinity & Beyond – the team of former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star Colin Delaney and ex-Ring of Honor (ROH) star Cheech. To Infinity & Beyond previously bested The Private Party last month in Rochester.
Friedman (MJF) will take on one of the top up-and-comers on the Buffalo independent wrestling scene, Puf.
The normally jovial Puf foresees himself delivering some severe violence to MJF.
“(MJF’s) a rich bitch and I’m going to beat his ass,” Puf said.
ESW Heavyweight Champion Brandon Thurston will defend his title against two-time former champion “Big Time” Bill Collier. This is not the first time Thurston and Collier will be locking horns. The two squared off in singles action in August 2017 with Thurston picking up the victory in that encounter.
ESW Interstate Champion Frankie Feathers will put his belt on the line versus Rochester native “Captain” Nick Ando. Feathers teamed with ESW Tag Team Champions James Sayga and Vince Valor plus Mr. Brickster last month and defeated Jerk Cockins, Leroy Green, Slade and T.J. Crawford in an eight-man tag match.
Ando picked up a win in his hometown last month over “Omega” Aaron Draven. He will look to build off that win when he challenges Feathers for the title at “Sky is The Limit”.
“A lot of folks are looking past Frankie Feathers, saying he’s an unworthy champion, but I’ve been around long enough to know that you can’t discount years of experience,” Ando said. “With that said, I’ve already won this match. I’m that confident. I’m coming for m*therf*ck*ng glory. Plus, Mrs. Captain wants a chinchilla farm, so daddy’s got to get paid!”
After being jumped by ESW Commissioner The Caesar and the returning ESW legend “Mastiff” Will Calrissian in January, viral internet star Anthony Gaines will be seeking revenge against them when he faces Calrissian one-on-one.
“Let’s pull back the curtain,” Gaines said. “People don’t know that Will (Calrissian) was one of my first seminars. One of the first to give me credit for being a good…anything. This hurts more than anything. And now this is bigger than just Caesar trying to capitalize on the most viral superstar in ESW, today. This is me giving Will more credit thinking he wouldn’t do something like this. It’s hard for me to still process what he did because I have a lot of love for the guy still as a performer. But this is my stage now. His time came and went and if he wants my spotlight, he better hit a little f*ck*ng harder.”
North Tonawanda’s own Kevin Bennett will square off against “The Blade” Pepper Parks in a long anticipated street fight. Bennett and Parks battled each other throughout most of last year and that feud looks to culminate in brutal fashion with this match.
Two former friends and ex-ESW Tag Team Champions will square off with the loser facing dire consequences. Randy P and Andy C, formerly known as The Oliver Street Express, will battle in a “Loser Leaves ESW” match. Ever since dropping the tag titles, the pair’s relationship began to crumble and now culminates in this bout.
“I thought we were brothers,” Andy C said. “That is not the case anymore and Randy made that clear. Only one of us can stay and I’m going to make that very clear on March 30th.”
Also in action will be “A Cut Above The Rest” Gavin Glass against Atticus Cogar. Glass wrestled in a triple threat match versus Eric Emanon and ROH’s Leon St. Giovanni last month. This will be Cogar’s first match in ESW this year, with his last appearance being at “WrestleBash” in November 2018.
“I’m sure every time someone talks about a match against Gavin Glass, they make the same broken glass joke,” said Cogar’s manager Brother Christianson. “Atticus doesn’t find humor in broken things. He comes from a broken family. He has had a lifetime of broken promises. Now he is coming back from a broken orbital bone. No, he doesn’t find any humor in broken things, he finds anger. Gavin Glass will bear the brunt of that anger.”
Tickets for “Sky is The Limit” are sold out. This is the first event in ESW history to sell out in advance.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with bell-time at 6 p.m. “Sky Is The Limit” will be broadcast over live streaming service Twitch for those who are unable to attend. Select matches will also be recorded exclusively for Powerslam TV.
