After making its debut in the Greater Rochester area in February, Empire State Wrestling ( ESW ) returns to the Village Sports in Fairport, N.Y. this Saturday with its event “The Next Chapter”.
The Next Chapter follows ESW as their biggest event of the spring – “Brawlfest” which was held in North Tonawanda, N.Y. ESW hopes to build off its prior show that included international wrestling legend Ultimo Dragon as the summer approaches.
ESW Heavyweight Champion Brandon Thurston successfully defended his title against Major League Wrestling star Fred Yehi at Brawlfest. He will put the belt on the line against Northeast U.S. independent wrestling star Jay Freddie at The Next Chapter. Thurston and Freddie faced off earlier this year on Beyond Wrestling’s weekly live show “Uncharted Territory”.

If Thurston retains the championship, he plans on defending the title against the returning “Red Death” Daniel Garcia at ESW’s next North Tonawanda event on June 29.
Chikara stars The Colony will return to ESW after nearly 6-year hiatus. They will challenge ESW Tag Team Champions James Sayga and Vince Valor for their titles.
“After the amazing match of Private Party versus Colin Delaney & Cheech (To Infinity & Beyond), two teams we have a great deal of respect for, Rochester is expecting another showcase of fast paced, hard hitting tag team wrestling,” Valor said. “This Saturday, we won’t let them down. The Colony versus Vince Valor and James Sayga is an exciting matchup of quickness versus power. It won’t be an easy task by any means, but we’re walking out with our championships held high.”
Rochester-based comedian Vinnie Paulino will be looking to get revenge against former ESW star “Big Cat” Lemmer and has aligned with Cleveland, Ohio tag team The Philly Marino Experience. In response, Lemmer has enlisted the services of the well-traveled Rochester, N.Y.-based team of To Infinity & Beyond.
“I look forward to putting the wannabe funny man to rest on Saturday,” Lemmer said. “I can’t wait to watch (To) Infinity & Beyond take care of the Dan Marino Experience!”
Rob Sweet will square off against Gavin Glass. This match came about after Glass brutally attacked Sweet after teaming together at ESW’s Albion event earlier in May.
“Gavin Glass is begging to meet the side of me I’ve tried to keep under wraps,” Sweet said. “But in turn, he has helped reintroduce myself to a side of me that’s straight up violent, downright dangerous and damn straight reckless.”
In a match featuring three of the brightest young wrestling stars in the region, “The Remix” Kevin Bennett, “None of a Kind” Anthony Gaines and Cleveland, Ohio’s Atticus Cogar will take part in a triple threat match.
“Big League” John McChesney will battle “Your Captain” Nick Ando. Both wrestlers will look to get back in the win column after McChesney lost to Thurston at ESW’s previous Fairport event in February and Ando fell to ESW Interstate Champion Frankie Feathers in April.
“The uncrowned mayor of Erie better leave his loafers at home and pack his nicest working shoes,” Ando said. “‘Cause poppa’s pants are full and I’m fixin’ to free some reptiles from the zoo!”
Two mainstays of the Rochester wrestling scene will battle each other when former Ring of Honor star Cloudy takes on Dewey.
“It’s gonna be nothing but a sunny day as we in the 585 (area code) raise hell and eat some cornbread with our 716 (area code) kinfolk,” Dewey said.
Pre-sale general admission tickets are $15. Front row tickets are $25. Tickets increase $5 day of the event. Doors open at 5 p.m. with bell-time at 6 p.m. The Next Chapter will be recorded for ESW’s streaming service partners, including Powerslam.TV. ESW presents The Next Chapter.
