Welcome to the Saturday Nights Main Event for 05/24/25 preview right here on Pro Wrestling Post. My partner in crime, Marc, couldn’t make it for this, so it’s just me left to my own devices. Let’s hope we get through this in one piece!
This edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event is awkwardly placed two weeks after Backlash and two weeks before Money in the Bank. This is due to WrestleMania 41 being two weeks later than usual this year.
The event feels a little clunky, but it is Memorial Day weekend (in the United States) and the unofficial start to summer.
Maybe the weather will finally start to warm up. There’s also only four matches announced instead of the usual five. Could something get added last minute on Smackdown? Let’s see what’s been announced.
Saturday Nights Main Event for 05/24/25
Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest
(Steel Cage Match)
Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract last year at WrestleMania after Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
It was a crowning moment for McIntyre, finally winning a world title in front of fans. His two previous WWE Championship victories occurred during the fanless pandemic era.
McIntyre was once again a world champion and at the top of the mountain. Except, he couldn’t let his feelings for CM Punk, commentating the match, go and that allowed Priest to become the second person to successfully cash in at WrestleMania.
Priest and McIntyre recently renewed their rivalry heading into WrestleMania 41, squaring off in a Sin City Street fight. McIntyre got the upper hand that night.
They would find themselves squaring off a couple of weeks later in the finals for the #1 contendership for the United States Championship and a ticket to Backlash.
McIntyre seemingly won that match after some interference. Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis ended up making a fatal four United States Championship match at Backlash instead.
McIntyre and Priest wound up taking each other out of contention for the US title, which Jacob Fatu successfully defended, and brought us to this steel cage showdown. Will this be the final chapter in their storied rivalry? Where do Priest and McIntyre go from here?
Saturday Nights Main Event for 05/24/25
John Cena vs. R-Truth
R-Truth is such a national treasure. His enduring goofiness got him here. Truth just wanted to stick up for his childhood hero, John Cena, after he sold his soul to The Rock at Elimination Chamber a couple of months ago.
So, how does his hero repay him for still believing in him? At the Backlash press conference, Cena put Truth through the table with an AA (or is it FU?) Cena’s title is not on the line here, nor should it be.
This is just about Cena wrecking Truth’s dreams. Will Truth see the light that Cena’s changed and not for the better? What will Cena do to wreck his last believer, R-Truth?
Saturday Nights Main Event for 05/24/25
CM Punk & Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker
CM Punk finally got to live out his ultimate dream, main eventing WrestleMania. He did so on Night 1 of this year’s WrestleMania 41. He got to share his moment with his best friend, Paul Heyman, by his side in his corner.
Punk’s ultimate dream turned into a nightmare as Heyman not only turned on him, but he also turned on his tribal chief, Roman Reigns.
This ultimate betrayal let Seth Rollins walk out of WrestleMania not only with the victory, but his very own wise man. Heyman has put together this new dangerous alliance with Bron Breakker backing Seth Rollins.
By turning his back on Reigns, Heyman also turned his back on Sami Zayn. Punk wants to get his hands on not only Rollins and Breakker, but Heyman as well.
Rollins gave Zayn an out to not be involved in this fight with Punk but Zayn declined, falling victim to the newest Paul Heyman Guys. Zayn is here to help back Punk, much like Punk did with The Original Bloodline in WarGames at last year’s Survivor Series.
Does Heyman have another trick up his sleeve? Will Rollins and Breakker get another one over Punk? Will Punk and Zayn joining forces make a difference against the new alliance? Will the victory help either team in their pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship?
Saturday Nights Main Event for 05/24/25
Jey Uso (c) vs. Logan Paul
(World Heavyweight Championship Match)
This match has been confirmed as the main event for the evening. Back during the pandemic, The Bloodline story was getting going.
Roman Reigns needed an opponent for a PLE and Jey Uso was selected, since his brother Jimmy was out of action with an injury.
What was meant to be a one off give Roman something to do match received heavy praise afterwards. The praise was so good that they had a rematch at the next PLE.
The rematch was so well received that a subplot was added to The Bloodline story to turn Jey Uso from tag team guy to main event player.
The story was well crafted and achieved its goal, Main Event Jey Uso, World Heavyweight Champion. Jey Uso is the man (sorry Becky) and the fans are yeeting right behind him.
Jey Uso finally toppled Gunther for the title at WrestleMania 41 after winning the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match. Logan Paul called first dibs on the new champion but Seth Rollins took cuts and was disposed of.
Going into his now second title defense, Jey’s been knocked out four times by Paul on recent episodes of Monday Night Raw.
Logan Paul is a former United States Champion, so the World Heavyweight Championship is a logical next step. Paul did step up to the Tribal Chief in Saudi Arabia a couple of years ago and was able to hold his own in a losing affair.
Will history repeat itself this time with Roman’s cousin Jey coming out on top? Will Paul change history and capture his first world championship?
Don’t forget, Gunther has been guaranteed his rematch against whomever wins this match on the Raw following Money in the Bank. Will Gunther sit back and watch? Or, will he try to pick whom he will face in his rematch?
There you have it. Will hopes and dreams be lifted or shattered? Catch all of the action as Saturday Night’s Main Event is live from coast to coast in the US on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
