Roman Reigns clarifies absence from WWE

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns gave an exclusive interview with TMZ in the early hours of May 8th. In the interview, he addressed his recent absence from WWE programming. Reigns has not been on TV in person since the March 20th episode of SmackDown. Roman Reigns clarifies absence from WWE TV.

“A lot of people, they think it was based off my health and the my fight with leukemia,” Reigns began. “Talking to my doctors and stuff, I actually am fine and my immune system is good. The drugs that I take to fight the leukemia, they don’t attack your immune system.” About his choice to sit out Wrestlemania, the former champion said “We just had two newborn twins, twin boys. They’re 8 weeks old, so I had to make a decision for them.”

In the days and weeks following his last televised appearance, many have speculated about his status within the company. Nobody has mentioned his name on TV since the March 27th episode of SmackDown. Worse still, WWE edited him out of a recap of Seth Rollins’s victory in the main event of Wrestlemania 31. A video package on RAW implied that Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. In actuality, Reigns took the pin that night in Santa Clara. Many believe that this is an indication of management getting fed up with the constant stalls to his career. After his 2015 injury, 2016 wellness violation, and 2018 leukemia diagnosis, it looked like Vince McMahon might have finally soured on his pet project.

Talking about his return, Roman said “I wanna be out there. I wanna get back to work. But I just feel I have an obligation, not just to my family and myself but to my community.” He says he’s not sure when he’ll be returning to the ring. For now, at least, he says he’s in “Daddy mode” and that’s just fine with him.
