On Saturday, July 23rd, ROH presents Death Before Dishonor 2022. This will be the first Ring of Honor event under Tony Khan’s ownership. The event features five matches, with each one holding seemingly greater prestige than the last one. Each of Ring of Honor’s championships will be on the line. As of this past Friday, ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham would defend his title against a man that called ROH home for several years in, Claudio Castagnoli.

Each match carries with it the potential of a changing of the guard but, more importantly, a chance for ROH to bridge their notable names from the past with names that should be carrying them to the future. Here is the Death Before Dishonor 2022 preview.

    ROH Pure Championship Match
Wheeler Yuta (c) vs. Daniel Garcia

This match has all the makings of an absolute classic. As members of either the Blackpool Combat Club or the Jericho Appreciation Society, Yuta and Garcia emerged as faces to keep their eyes on. Both men are primed to move forward in the wrestling world, and it could just as well be as part of Ring of Honor. Yuta is a fierce competitor with a will to strike and strike hard. For Red Death, Daniel Garcia he has learned to bleed and push forward as well.

Will this be the start of a longstanding feud between these two young elite men? Will they fight with honor or demonstrate dishonor on their way to a win?

    ROH Women’s World Championship Match:
Mercedes Martinez (c) vs. Serena Deeb

A match that initially appeared based on mutual respect for one another has a full-fledged battle ahead of them. These are the two most polished and technically sound women on the AEW roster, so to have them battle for the ROH Women’s Championship only makes sense. Fans are well aware of ‘The Professor’ Serena Deeb’s ability to tear at her opposition limb from limb.

But for Mercedes Martinez, her time as ROH Women’s Champion will not be in vain. She has worked too long and hard to simply serve the title for Deeb to walk out on. Instead, both women need to stick to their strengths to succeed. Therefore, Martinez can’t allow herself to be put in a position where Deeb can get ahold of a limb and apply a submission hold of some kind but rather use an array of strikes to gain and maintain the advantage.

    ROH World Championship Match:

Jonathan Gresham (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli

With a little over a week to build this match, it pairs two of the most technically sound athletes in wrestling. While Tully Blanchard will now firmly be in the corner of the Octopus, William Regal will be in the corner of Claudio Castagnoli. With outside distractions essentially balancing themselves out, it is inside the ring where it will be fun to see what transpires.

The more seasoned Castagnoli will face someone that has consistently been full tilt representing the foundation of wrestling over the past few years. After years of nearly taking a step back, Castagnoli will resume what made him as admired as he has been. Will this be the night Castagnoli captures his first singles title in ROH?

    ROH World TV Championship Match:
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Jay Lethal

As the first match was announced for the event, it is time for the talk to stop and the fighting to begin. Teacher versus pupil. ROH stalwart versus ROH stalwart. Both men made history as the ROH Television champion on their own and now will face each other for the first time in singles action in 13 years. When they did, it was as part of TNA and for the X-Division Championship.

Now, after countless title runs in different promotions, Joe and Lethal face one another again. For Samoa Joe, he faces an uphill battle with Sonjay Dutt and Sattum Singh in the corner of Jay Lethal. Will Joe retain or will Lethal administer a lethal injection and recapture the ROH Television Championship?

ROH World Tag Team Championship Match:
    FTR (c) vs. The Briscoes
    * 2 out of 3 falls *

How can this not be the headliner of all the matches on the card? Their last matchup caught the attention of the excitement of ROH fans past and present. The challenge was laid because FTR knew that their match against the Briscoes was far too good to simply be a one-off matchup. So how do we top a match that had one great match? We schedule a match that has two out of three falls booked for it.

If the match was booked this way, could this very well be the last match we see The Briscoes compete in under the Ring of Honor brand? If Mark and Jay Briscoe have anything to do with it, it won’t be. Fans are assured that this match may be every bit as exciting as their last battle.
