It’s been a weird time at NOAH in the past couple of days but this was certainly unexpected results/news. On April 19th, two members of Sugiura-Gun International, El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., and Rene Dupree would fight the GHC Tag Team Champions, Masaaki Mochizuki and Naomichi Marufuji in the main event for the titles. This wouldn’t be their first encounter as they were on the same block in the Global Tag League. Wagner and Dupree would defeat them to make it into the finals on April 14th.

As it would seem on April 19th, lightning would strike twice. They would now defeat Marufuji and Mochizuki to win the GHC Tag Team Championships after Dupree pinned Marufuji. So how did they get the opportunity for getting the title match aside from beating them in the Global Tag League? Well, Wagner and Dupree would actually win the Global Tag League when they defeated AXIZ (Go Shiozaki and Katsuhiko Nakajima) in the finals on April 18th. This would also be the second year in a row where Sugiura-Gun would not only defeat AXIZ in the finals of the Global Tag League Finals but where someone from the unit would win the titles after.

This is also a big deal for the Global Tag League. They’re also known as the first gaijin team to win the tournament as a whole. So that’s an accomplishment in itself. There haven’t been new challengers announced as of right now but be sure to find out on their Twitter soon. If you wanna watch the show, DDT hosted the event on their streaming service DDT Pro Universe

Congratulations to Sugiura-Gun on winning the GHC Tag Team Championships. All of us here at Pro Wrestling Post hope you check out the match on the website. It really is worth watching.
