The stage is set for the New Japan Cup USA! With a shot at Jon Moxley’s IWGP United States Championship up for grabs, the stakes are high. STRONG STYLE EVOLVED continues as the build to the tournament gets underway. In the main event, we’ll see Team Filthy take on the team of Brody King and the Riegel Twins. The second match on the card will be the always electric TJP & Alex Coughlin squaring off against Misterioso and Jordan Clearwater. The opening match will find Rocky Romero going against LA Dojo student Kevin Knight. We’re certain to see some exciting, competitive action! This is the preview for NJPW Strong for 4/2/21.

    NJPW STRONG for 4/2/21
    Rocky Romero vs. Kevin Knight

In what promises to bring out a spirited effort from both competitors, Kevin Knight faces some of his stiffest competition yet. Rocky Romero has been on a downswing lately, but don’t let that fool you; he’s still as fiery as always. Kevin Knight, however, has the reputation of being one of the hungriest students currently training at the LA Dojo. A win against someone the caliber of Romero would arguably be his biggest win to date. However, a Romero loss would do more damage to his already falling stock. Both men failed to clinch a berth in the NJPW Cup USA tournament. As a result, they will be sure to want to get back on the right path.

TJP and Alex Coughlin vs. Misterioso and Jordan Clearwater

Following a courageous performance against Jeff Cobb that saw him come up short on STRONG two weeks ago, Alex Coughlin will be teaming up with the high-flying TJP. They will be squaring off against the always dangerous luchadore Misterioso, who will be teaming with Jordan Clearwater. Misterioso is also coming off of a disappointing loss, losing to Ren Narita in a tournament qualifier. As with the first match, the desire to get back on the right track should drive the men involved to put on a great showing. I’m personally very excited about the prospect of seeing TJP and Misterioso lock up. They are two of the most exciting performers in the brand right now, for my money.

Team Filthy (Tom Lawlor, JR Kratos, and Chris Dickinson) vs Brody King and the Riegel Twins (Sterling & Logan)

In the main event Team Filthy looks to continue their dominance on STRONG. They face off against the dangerous Brody King and his two recent protege, the Riegel twins. After gaining quite a bit of momentum recently, it’ll take a lot more than fake tattoo sleeves for the two twins to pull out a victory. Tom Lawlor was the first participant to qualify for the tournament, and he’s looking to make a statement. Add the fact that he has JR Kratos and Chris Dinkinson at his side. This trio are certainly a force to be reckoned with. It should also be noted that Brody King and Chris Dinkinson will face off in the first round of the NJPW Cup USA.

Like I said, this week’s card is shaping up to be nothing less than spectacular. NJPW STRONG has been running on a high the last couple months. With the tournament brackets completely fleshed out, that trend isn’t likely to change any time soon. It should be very interesting to see who continues to build momentum leading to the Cup. As always, let us know what matches you are excited to see, along with any potential match-ups you would like to have come to fruition in the tournament.
