NJPW Announces Okada To Headline Wrestle Grand Slam 2021

According to recent announcements posted by New Japan Pro Wrestling, the Wrestle Grand Slam PPV event in the Tokyo Dome will be getting a monumental main event. Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada is slated to stand across the ring from either Will Ospreay or Shingo Takagi. This will for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match on May 29, 2021.

On the Wrestling Dontaku 2021 PPV event (a two-night event spanning over May 3-4) the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion will face off against Shingo Takagi, defending his newly minted gold belt. This comes after Ospreay’s shocking victory over former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kota Ibushi on April 4. Afterward, Ospreay issued a rematch to Okada. He was feeling as though he needed to avenge his loss to the “Rainmaker” from earlier this year.

As Okada motioned for a response to Ospreay’s championship challenge, Shingo Takagi had other plans in mind. Takagi reminded Ospreay and the NJPW World audience that he was the one who defeated Okada in this year’s New Japan Cup; and that if anyone deserves a title shot, it was him. Takagi is now scheduled to face Ospreay for the top prize in NJPW on Night 2 of Wrestling Dontaku 2021, and the winner of this match will meet Kazuchika Okada on May 29 in the Tokyo Dome. Who will enter June victorious from this world championship fiasco? You can find out live when NJPW presents Wrestle Grand Slam on NJPW World. Stay tuned to Pro Wrestling Post for the latest updates as this situation unravels.
