According to reports from PWInsider, IMPACT Wrestling have come to terms on the release of Michael Elgin. According to the press release, Elgin will not be appearing in any further IMPACT Wrestling content. IMPACT removed Elgin from their roster page, and they are no longer selling his merchandise through their store. IMPACT Wrestling suspended Michael Elgin on June 22nd after #SpeakingOut uncovered a number of allegations against him. At the same time, they announced they had terminated the contracts of Joey Ryan and Dave Crist. In the press release issued that day, IMPACT stated he would remain suspended until they finished reviewing the allegations. Therefore IMPACT Wrestling terminates the contract of Michael Elgin.
The release of Michael Elgin, accompanied with the release of IMPACT World Champion Tessa Blanchard, causes issues for the Slammiversary pay-per-view. Previously, the scheduled main event featured Blanchard defending the IMPACT World Championship against Elgin, Eddie Edwards, Ace Austin, and Trey Miguel. IMPACT has not scheduled any tapings before the July 18th PPV. This leaves the creative and production teams scrambling to replace the now-scrapped content. They are currently weighing the options based on other taped content and what they can produce remotely. Edwards, Austin, and Miguel are still with the company, and will compete for the now vacant title at the closed-arena event in Nashville.
IMPACT Wrestling Terminates Contract of Michael Elgin
Michael Elgin debuted for IMPACT Wrestling on April 28th, 2019 at the Rebellion pay-per-view. Elgin appeared to challenge Brian Cage following Cage’s world championship victory over Johnny Impact. He has also worked for Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Following the announcement of his release, Elgin posted the following to his Instagram account:
I appreciate the time and opportunities given to me with Impact. That locker room, the film crew, and all company officials were a pleasure to be associated with. I hope that in time things get sorted. For now, I have to look at the bright side. I have more time to spend with my son and reclaim the time that has been missed.
Elgin has since begun deleting his social media accounts.
