On September 3rd, 2022, the WWE Intercontinental Championship will be on the line at a first-time Premium Live Event, Clash At The Castle, when Gunther and Sheamus face one another.
The Ring General looks to defend the mat he sees as sacred by defending the championship. He does so against a man looking to complete the Grand Slam of WWE titles, Sheamus.
Gunther and Sheamus – The Fighting Road To Cardiff
Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the June 10th, 2022, edition of Smackdown from Ricochet. Ever since then, he has been on a dominant run.
From having strong style battles with guys such as Shinsuke Nakamura to beating down former champions such as Ricochet, the Ring General has held a tight grip over SmackDown.
One that not many could challenge. However, in Wales, one Irishman will attempt to unseat the giant Austrian.

The next week of SmackDown, there was a face-off between the two warriors that built up the intensity before their fight in Cardiff.
They both outlined their intentions to beat each other down and gain the Intercontinental title crown, and despite Butch and Kaisar brawling, nothing could stop these men from losing eye contact with one another.
Gunther and Sheamus – A Slugfest For The Ages
Ever since Sheamus made his WWE debut back in 2010, he has made a name for himself as being one of the roster’s most brutal sluggers.
Many wrestlers have be seen to leave matches with the Celtic Warrior with bruises and welts due to his hard-hitting style. This has helped him to win many championships in the WWE and helped him to beat greats such as Cena and Orton.

Gunther also managed to hold off tough challengers such as Ilja Dragunov and Tyler Bate with his vicious chops and strikes.
He did so in order to keep his rip on the NXT UK Championship for over 800 days. Both men laid out their intentions to fight one another for the title, and with their brutal styles, this match promises to be a hard-hitting affair.
The Importance Of The WWE Intercontinental Championship
Sheamus has been in WWE for over a decade. During this time, he has accumulated multiple title reigns, including several world title reigns, several tag team title reigns, and a United States Championship run. Despite all the gold collected, one title has eluded him throughout his entire career.
It is one that has prevented him from becoming a Grand Slam champion: the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The Irishman could put his names with greats like Triple H and Rey Mysterio, but it will not be an easy day in the office.

The Ring General will be on a mission to take down the Smackdown roster in the name of the title he holds. He will do so to prove that his style of wrestling puts him on the top of the pedestal.
Both wrestlers have their personal reasons of why the championship means a lot to them. They will do anything to get their hands on the gold, and with their physical styles, this will mean danger for their adversary.
Gunther and Sheamus – Doing It The European Way
All over the world, there are many different styles in the sport of wrestling that become devised by different countries and continents.
This is no different for Gunther and Sheamus. Both men’s wrestling abilities are influenced by the European style, which has been showcased by greats such as Nigel McGuinness and William Regal.
The European style of wrestling is characterized by physical and technical wrestling. It also involves the art of using hard strikes to create the feel of a real fight.
Both men have used this to differentiate themselves from the rest of the roster in WWE. But now they finally face off one-on-one; they will show the violence of the European style and unleash war on one another in Cardiff.

However, the only thing that stands in his way is the Ring General, Gunther, who looks to continue his pulverizing of challengers to, once again, make the wrestling mat sacred. Both men will go to battle and destroy each other, but only one will walk out of Cardiff with the crown.
