One month after her WWE release, Deonna Purrazzo arrives in IMPACT. It is her first appearance in the promotion since 2016. The former NXT star appeared in a vignette explaining her new persona “The Virtuosa” and touting her technical skill. It looks as though she intends to highlight her crisp, methodical wrestling style with her new employers.

WWE released Purrazzo from her contract in April of this year as part of their cost cutting measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She signed with the company in 2018 after a SHIMMER show on Wrestlemania weekend. “That was the day that Canyon Ceman (of WWE) approached me,” Purrazzo recalled in an interview with Fightful.  “He said, ‘Hey, we’d really like to hire you.’ I was like, ‘Well you can’t, I’m employed at Ring of Honor.’ He was like, ‘Well, I thought we discussed taking a short term contract.’ I said, ‘We didn’t discuss anything. That is not your choice. I do have a six-month opt-out, but I don’t know if that’s something I’m willing to do right now.’ He put it very frank, ‘This is your opportunity and I don’t know if this is going to be available in a year.‘”

Purrazzo’s choice to sign with WWE in 2018 meant she was unable to participate in All In that summer. She participated in the 2nd Mae Young Classic, where she reached the quarter-finals before losing to Io Shirai. In total, she worked only 17 televised matches with the company.

The 25-year-old has made a number of appearances with Impact Wrestling in the past. She participated in the 2014 and 2016 Knockouts Knockdown events, as well as the One Night Only: LIVE! event in 2016. Impact booked her on a per appearance basis. She performed as simply “Deonna” and lost regularly. As of May 27th, we have no details of her contract but we hope she fares better in the new environment.
