Over the weekend, IMPACT Wrestling kicked off their calendar year with a tremendous Hard To Kill PPV as we preview Brace for IMPACT for 1/13/22. With a new X-Division champion, a new #1 Contender to the Knockouts title, and a handful of ROH stars appearing, things have been truly shaken up. We might look back on this week’s IMPACT Wrestling as the culmination of the Forbidden Door storyline.
Thankfully, Brace For IMPACT is here to break down the goings-on in the rapidly changing world of IMPACT Wrestling. Here’s what you can expect this Thursday night at 8 PM on AXS TV.
Brace for IMPACT for 1/13/22
Mike Bailey vs Jake Something
At Destiny Wrestling’s Raising Hell event on Halloween “Speedball” Mike Bailey took on Josh Alexander for the DWW Championship. While Bailey failed to capture the championship, he looked valiant in defeat. Following the match, Scott D’Amore came out to congratulate Bailey on his performance, and offer him a contract with IMPACT Wrestling.
Bailey made his debut on the Hard to Kill pre-show, defeating Ace Austin, Chris Bey, and Laredo Kid in a fatal 4-way. Thursday night, he debuts on IMPACT Wrestling proper, facing Jake Something. Bailey is looking to impress in his AXS TV debut, but Jake Something is looking to impress after quite some time away. Jake Something took a pin at the hands of JONAH during the Hard To Kill go-home show, and prior to that his last appearance in the IMPACT Zone was before Bound For Glory.
Will Jake Something use his overwhelming power to pick up the win or will Mike Bailey’s speed and technical acumen give him the upper hand?

Chris Bey vs Laredo Kid
Bey has been trying to ascend the championship ladder in IMPACT Wrestling since he lost the X-Division Championship back in 2020. Lately, he’s been in contention for the X-Division Title, however, he’s also tried a few cracks at the Tag Team Championships with his partners in BULLET CLUB. This week on AXS TV, Bey returns to singles action to take on Laredo Kid. Chris Bey and Laredo Kid last met in singles action on December 16th, with Bey walking out the victor.
Both men also participated in a fatal 4-way on the Hard to Kill preshow, but neither man won. Both Chris Bey and Laredo Kid are looking to pick up the all-important momentum as they vie for the X-Division Championship. However, with the arrival of some ROH refugees, might there be another title they can challenge for? Find out this Thursday night on AXS TV.

Deonna Purrazzo (AAA Reina de Reinas) vs Rok-C (ROH Women’s Champion)
– Champion vs Champion match
On Saturday night Deonna Purrazzo and Mickie James made history, becoming the first women to work the main event of an IMPACT PPV. The two top contenders in the Knockouts division went to war in their Texas Death Match. Now, not one week later, “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo is defending another title. At Triplemania XXIX in August of last year, The Virtuosa captured the Reina De Reinas championship from Faby Apache.
True to her character, Purrazzo hasn’t defended that title since. But things are different in IMPACT Wrestling, and some new stars have arrived. Along with Jonathan Gresham, ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C has come to IMPACT Wrestling. And, much like Gresham, Rok-C wants to defend her title as well. She has the honor and the challenge of fighting The Virtuosa for not only the ROH Women’s Title but also the AAA Reina de Reinas championship.
What Else To Expect?
- Josh Alexander vs a surprise opponent
- Jonathan Gresham in the IMPACT Zone
- More stars from ROH
