Of all the rising talent on the independent scene and then the WWE, one of the biggest up-and-coming names is Shotzi Blackheart. She made her debut in 2015, and her career really began to take off after she took a chance on a seminar with RISE. She appeared on RISE 1, defeating Savannah Evans and catching the attention of SHIMMER. From there, her career has gone international, including tours in Europe. More recently, she made her debut on IMPACT in 2017 and was part of EVOLVE 131, which aired on the WWE Network. For a woman so early in her…

As I begin my History of Shimmer, let’s start at the beginning. SHIMMER Women Athletes is an all-female wrestling company based out of Chicago. Before WWE’s women’s revolution, before TNA’s Knockouts division, before Women of Honor, there was SHIMMER. SHIMMER was founded in 2005 by Dave Prazak and Allison Danger. What is SHIMMER? Allison was a manager in ROH and on the indies while Prazak got to know a lot of women in wrestling. Many felt underutilized and marginalized to being managers or valets just because they were the only women on the card. With Danger and a group of…

It’s good to be the Ace of EVE. When she won the 2018 SHE-1 tournament in November, Jamie Hayter earned two prizes. First, she is the Ace of EVE for the next year. Nobody can take that away from her, and she can rub it right in our faces as a good heel should. Her second prize is the right to challenge for the title of her choice at Wrestle Queendom II. She knocked off both Kris Wolf and Toni Storm in the final, firmly cementing herself as the next big thing in EVE. She’s already quite impressive and has…

Now that we’ve gotten the worst matches out of the way, it’s time for happier fare. In some ways, I found it harder to put this list together than the worst list. For one thing, the worst list had a lot of worthy candidates to choose from. WWE has not been interested in good women’s wrestling for very long, which leaves the list below with heavy recency bias. This all adds up to the actual list of matches being rather easy to assemble, mostly. The difficult part is plugging the gaps and figuring out the order. Here are the ten…

This pandemic has really made it difficult to watch independent wrestling or contribute anything. But with WrestleMania coming up this weekend, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to indulge my passions for wrestling and writing. I cover women’s wrestling here, so I figured the best way to contribute something for WrestleMania season would be to cover WrestleMania women’s matches. I’ll have the best matches up soon, but it’s worth getting the more unpleasant task out of the way first. So here is my ranking of the ten worst WrestleMania women’s matches ever. . 10. Beth Phoenix and Melina vs. Ashley and…

On January 11, EVE presents Wrestle Queendom 3 from 229 The Venue at Great Portland Street, London. You can watch live at Fite.tv or on replay at EVEonDemand. By the way, I’m back, and better than ever. No, I’m not Eric Bischoff. It’s been a while since I came here with anything, largely due to end of the semester stuff. But you don’t care about that.  What you care about is the biggest women’s wrestling event of the year in Europe, and it’s coming to us early. This year’s Queendom promises a very interesting card. There have been updates in…

So I couldn’t help myself here at SHIMMER 117. I got more merchandise during intermission – I had to get a selfie with the new champ and make my best friend jealous. I also figured I’d get an 8×10 from Rhia as well since she was so amused by my arm tattoo at the afterparty last night. Also, I got to snap a picture of my turnbuckle pad. I just need to hunt down Jordynne Grace, Nicole Matthews, LuFisto, KC Spinelli, and Delilah Doom to get the signature collection complete. Match 1: Marti Belle vs. Bel Pierce There are some occasional…

It’s easy like Sunday morning at SHIMMER 116 today. I have made it to the venue and just bought a turnbuckle pad from The Summit, signed by all the wrestlers here who were there. I’ll put that in the 117 piece once I can pick it up after the show. That might have to be the last of my merch, though. SHIMMER weekend is a great way to lighten your wallet. I have to say, the SHIMMER Title situation is the most interesting part of the day for me here. I smell a title change in the air. Maybe two,…

Here for the second of four shows with what would be SHIMMER 115. My fortune continued as Shotzi (Blackheart) signed my balls! To read my review of SHIMMER 114 click here. Intermission was great. Got to check around and get some good merch. Cheerleader Melissa was doing a purge and had a deal where if you bought four pictures they’d be $5 each. Hawlee Cromwell vs. Rookie Jenna Lynn Official SHIMMER volume debut here for Jenna Lynn (Cromwell has appeared as Hawlee Layne on Volume 96). It’s a short match and Jenna wins without even using her power-up. For the…

I’m here for day two of SHIMMER weekend. It’s my third SHIMMER weekend, and there’s nothing quite like it. I’ve got third-row tickets, and in a venue like this, that’s a lot of value for SHIMMER 114. RiSE dark match: Lady Frost with Jamie Senegal vs. Rookie Jenna Lynn with Candy Lee I wasn’t able to grab a photo because I was trying to get my balls signed by Shotzi (more on that in the 115 review). They aren’t allowed to touch each other until tomorrow and they’re having a Diva-off. Jamie found someone just like Candy, a cold-hearted bitch:…
