Kazuchika Okada held a press conference yesterday in which he and NJPW announces the creation of the King Of Pro-Wrestling Championship. Unlike the other NJPW championships, the King of Pro-Wrestling Championship is not represented by a belt. Instead, the KOPW championship will be a trophy awarded at the end of the year. Xcite Wrestling LLC announced yesterday that the New York State Athletic Commission has granted them permission to run shows. Their show, “There Can Be Only One”, will be the first pro wrestling event in New York state since lockdown was imposed. The show will take place at the new X Drive-In East at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, NY on Saturday, August 22. It will also be the first drive-in wrestling show in the state of New York. IMPACT Wrestling Slammiversary 2020 may very well be the most important event in IMPACT history. It’s not often that there’s this much hype leading into an IMPACT pay per view. But with the laundry list of WWE releases back in April, IMPACT Wrestling teased a number of former stars returning. Sami Zayn Announces Sami For Syria Success
Yesterday on Twitter, WWE Superstar Sami Zayn announces the launch of a new mobile clinic in Sami for Syria. In 2017, the Syrian-Canadian superstar launched the “Sami for Syria” campaign, alongside the Syrian American Medical Society. Brian Pillman Jr Denied MLW Release
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Major League Wrestling has denied Brian Pillman Jr’s request for release. Pillman has had his eyes on joining AEW since 2019 when he participated in the original Casino Battle Royale. He appeared on AEW Dark earlier this week, losing to Shawn Spears in a very close match. Judging from statements released by MLW and Pillman himself, his contract does not forbid him to work for AEW while under contract. In a statement earlier today, Irish indie promotion Over The Top Wrestling announced a number of staff and policy changes. Firstly, OTT has appointed Anne O’Brien as new head of talent relations. She will be the designated contact for wrestlers experiencing issues within the industry.
