Mr Big is that tough guy smooth-talking heel manager that we miss so much these days. He’s just that at a burly 6’2- with a gravelly voice to match- resplendent in a fittingly devilish all-red outfit. At 66 years old, he reminds you of those ex-wrestling stars who aged out of the ring and into a managerial role but could still kick your ass if need be. The man can talk AND mix it up. And even more importantly, he promotes each one of his proteges and matches like his life depended on it- which in today’s indie world is…

Mark Smith was more than a wrestler to me. He was more than a talent inside the ring. He was a friend. From the time I met him in 1999 at All Pro Wrestling in Hayward, I was amazed at his strength, conditioning, stamina, and power. Being a retired professional wrestler, the main questions I get asked are – “Is it fake?” “Do you really get hurt?” “Are you not good enough to do a real sport?” Believe me, I’ve been asked that last question more than once. And the answer I give to those questions is to suspend your disbelief and go and watch a match. Wrestling is either something you’re going to love or something you’re going to hate. And one style that throws up a lot of judgment is intergender wrestling. I began training here in the UK at the age of 16,…

Big Japan Pro Wrestling’s (BJWs) bi-annual round-robin tournament, the Ikkitousen Strong Climb, will come to a head-on Sunday, April 26.
