#AEWNews – Moxley Issues Challenge on AEW, Janela Accepts on GCW

It seems that Jon Moxley has found an opponent for next week’s AEW Dynamite… Joey Janela.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley issued an open challenge to anyone daring to accept. He expressed much doubt that anyone would accept his invitation, given the amount of damage Omega endured in their non-sanctioned match at AEW Full Gear.

Moxley stated, “I wonder if there’s anybody else out there that wants to get me before I get them. The kind of person they call ‘crazy,’ ‘reckless.'”

For fans only spectating AEW, it would appear Moxley ended the evening unchallenged. But that was simply not the case for wrestling fans who are active in following the social media grapevine. Or if they happened to be watching Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) the same night on Fite.TV.

In Philidelphia, the same night as AEW Dynamite, at GCW’s show Chopper City in the Ghetto, Joey Janela made a surprise appearance. In front of a few hundred fans, it was there that he accepted Moxley’s open challenge.

Janela had more than a few words to say about AEW and Moxley. He continued, “If you weren’t going to give me the mic on live TV, I was going to go somewhere that not only would give me the microphone, but would let me say whatever the f*** I please.”

“Next week on AEW Dynamite, I want the main event! I’m answering your f***in’ open challenge Jon Moxley!” he stated at GCW as it aired live on Fite.TV.

Certainly, Janela is just the man crazy and reckless enough to accept Moxley’s challenge. Let’s not forget, that both Moxley and Janela come from similar roots. They both built their early careers wrestling in the Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) during two completely different eras.

Nonetheless, regardless of era, CZW has always been one of the most violent wrestling leagues in the world. Both Janela and Moxley built up their threshold for pain in CZW’s dark-lit and delipated venues. Countless deathmatches and gallons of blood have been spilt over the years in these hellholds.

GCW -often viewed by its hardcore loyalists as a league brought to fruition by the evolution of CZW- makes for an ominous setting for Janela to accept such a challenge from. GCW is equally infamous for its ultraviolent deathmatches as well. It is a stark reminder to Moxley that Janela is also an alumni of ultraviolence.

Next week, on AEW Dynamite, a potential dream match will transpire. Moxley, a more senior superstar from CZW’s earlier origins, will take on the superstar of CZW’s more recent era, as well as GCW. But the roots they share will mean little. There will be no comradeship between Janela and Moxley as they will certainly unleash bitter hell on each other next Wednesday.
