In this week’s edition of AEW Rampage for 10/21/22, four matches are slated to take place. Of the four matches, the most notable being the titles versus trademark match-up set to take place. Will The Acclaimed retain their titles against the newly named ‘Varsity Athletes’?

Also on tap for the show includes two grudge matches and a match for the FTW Championship. So what can we expect to take place? Hopefully, quality matches with a sense of meaning to the big picture of AEW.

The Acclaimed (c) vs. Varsity Athletes

During last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, we saw Smart Mark Sterling put an immediate damper on The Acclaimed’s celebration. Sterling came out with Tony Nese and said that they purchased the rights to the term ‘Scissoring’ and the gesture that is tied to the move.

After some jockeying back and forth, Sterling had said he’d be willing to relinquish the trademark for an AEW World Tag Team championship opportunity. So the match has been set. This coming AEW Rampage, Tony Nese and Josh Woods, now dubbed the Varsity Athletes have a tag team championship match in front of them.

The Acclaimed is easily among the hottest acts in AEW today. So can we expect anything but a title being retained and the Scissor Me Daddy A** trademark returning back to the Acclaimed? It may be safe to presume so. One this is assured is that if Smart Mark Sterling gets involved in the match, one has to fear for his safety.

    Penelope Ford vs. Willow Nightingale

Willow Nightingale is among the most likable talents in the AEW Women’s division. So that likable nature is surely is a reason to see her compete. During her time in Ring of Honor as part of their Women’s Division, Nightingale was in contention for the ROH Women’s title.

But since being a part of AEW’s Ring of Honor, the question is that Nightingale isn’t part of a meaningful feud. She’s had one-off matches with the likes of Jamie Hayter and, in this instance, Penelope Ford but nothing longstanding that could be built upon.

Could this match with Penelope Ford be the start of a rivalry between the two? Something as simple of beauty and what everyone values as beauty as different? It could be a slippery slope, but if they walk a tightrope, this could be something that helps ultimately showcase Ford and Nightingale.

    Preston’ 10′ Vance vs. Rush

After weeks of trying to entice 10 to join LFI, Rush and Preston Vance will face each other one-on-one. As their match approached, the question that had been looming was whether 10 would leave The Dark Order and join LFI. But instead, we saw the group work together and even had a sense of camaraderie among them. John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, and 10 felt as united as ever.

Their recent challenge for the AEW Trios Championships proved how united they are as a group. So the suggestion that 10 could leave the Dark Order would be crushing to the group. However, with Andrade El Idolo on-screen being inconspicuous by his absence, the direction they go with 10 will be interesting.

Is it important to help grow La Faccion Ingobernables or run the risk of having someone else depart the Dark Order? It may very well be a one-off, and nothing more comes with it. Or we could see Rush begin to offer 10 more opportunities than he ever had before as part of the Dark Order.

This match may be more intriguing, but what comes after the match may very well be the more interesting story to be told.

    AEW Rampage for 10/21/22
    FTW Championship
    Hook vs. Ari Daivari

Before this match took place, Hook was offered a sum of money for the FTW Championship. Hook is one of the few words that proved he couldn’t be bought and that the title meant more to him than a sum of money. As it’s been noted before, the FTW Championship is the title that Hook’s father, Taz, had created during his days in ECW.

The title has value to his family, so to simply give it up over an amount of money would go against everything the title stood for. Daivari of The Trustbusters has backup as he goes into this match. On the other hand, Hook is going into this match alone, unlike the days in the past when he would have the rest of Team Taz by his side.

Hook’s growth and popularity in AEW doesn’t appear to be slowing anytime soon. However, one has to be concerned with his appearing only on Rampage, where he isn’t having a prime-time opportunity to defend his title.

    What To Expect

    • Britt Baker addresses Saraya’s attack of her during this past week’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
    • The Kingdom and The Embassy address FTR, Wardlow, and Samoa Joe
    • We will get an update on the condition of Darby Allin after this past week’s attack by Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt on AEW Dynamite.

Please share with us what you expect to happen this week in the comment section below for AEW Rampage for 10/21/22.
