AEW Dynamite IGNITE for 07/12/23
Swerve Strickland vs. Nick Wayne
Last week Swerve Strickland and former tag team partner Keith Lee’s existing animosity got the best of them last week in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament. Swerve appeared to find a perverse joy in the times he hit The Limitless One with wayward strikes.
However, an errant kick from Swerve on Lee left him open to Orange Cassidy’s diving DDT, allowing Darby Allin to pick up the victory. This week Swerve is eager to get back to his winning ways. His opponent will be the debuting indie star, Nick Wayne. Despite being only 18 years old, Wayne has already won such titles as the DEFY World Championship and the GCW World Tag Team Championship, which he currently holds with Jordan Oliver.
This match will also serve as something of a rubber match between the two; Swerve Strickland and Nick Wayne are 1-1 in singles competition. However, Swerve has associates in AEW, and they might make themselves known on Wednesday night.

Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia
Speaking of Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin, they find themselves in semifinal competition against the Jericho Appreciation Society. Despite being part of the same faction, Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia rarely team together. This lack of chemistry marred their win in the quarterfinals last week on Rampage.
That very night, Chris Jericho himself told Guevara and Garcia that they’ll need to get along if they want to stay in the Jericho Appreciation Society. That task is easier said than done, especially when teaming with someone like Sammy Guevara. Can they stick together for their match on Dynamite or will the JAS continue to dissolve?

Ruby Soho vs. Skye Blue –
Women’s Owen Hart Memorial Tournament Semifinals
Last week AEW World Women’s Champion Toni Storm and Saraya put an end to Britt Baker’s Back-To-Back Owen Hart Cup ambitions. Storm and Saraya repeatedly intervened on behalf of Ruby Soho, guaranteeing we will see a new winner of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup.
Indeed it seems like The Outcasts are conspiring to dictate the outcome of the tournament. This week, they’ll have their sights set on Skye Blue, one of the up-and-coming talents in AEW’s women’s division. Skye Blue isn’t without friends in the division, however, having teamed with Willow Nightingale in the past. Will this partnership help them reach the finals for a fair fight or will The Outcasts dictate yet another match?

Chris Jericho vs Komander
Speaking of Chris Jericho, he’ll be taking on AAA’s Komander this Wednesday night. The luchador has been having a bit of a difficult run since his AEW debut earlier this year. With 6 matches to his name in the company, he has yet to pick up a victory. Last week’s loss on Rampage was quite difficult as Claudio Castagnoli won via referee’s decision.
This week he has a chance to set things right against Chris Jericho. In his 33-year career, Chris Jericho has wrestled against various styles in all corners of the globe. The inaugural AEW World Champion is no stranger to Lucha Libre.
But with Komander’s 6-match losing streak in AEW, Jericho might just underestimate him. After all, he’s got bigger things to deal with in the Jericho Appreciation Society. Can Komander finally get a win in AEW, or will Jericho’s experience prove too much for Komander to overcome?

MJF & Adam Cole vs. Brian Cage & Big Bill
AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been behaving rather strangely lately, cozying up to Blind Eliminator Tournament partner Adam Cole. Since the duo had their names drawn as part of the tournament, MJF has been acting like Cole’s best friend. Last week, MJF uncharacteristically celebrated Adam Cole’s birthday.
He even imitates Adam Cole in his entrance. Given the AEW World Champion’s past behavior, it’s understandable that Adam Cole would be hesitant to trust him. They’ll have to coexist again this week as they take on the hulking duo of Brian Cage and Big Bill. Last week Cage and Bill took down Matt Sydal and Trent Beretta, another duo of smaller wrestlers who prioritize speed and technique over power. It might be an uphill battle again for MJF and Adam Cole this Wednesday night.

The Final Participants Revealed
At long last, we are set to see the tensions between Blackpool Combat Club and The Elite laid to rest in the annual Blood & Guts match! However, there seems to be a bit of a hiccup. As per the Blood & Guts stipulation, each team must consist of five members. However, BCC comprises of four members; Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli.
Likewise, Kenny Omega, Matt & Nick Jacksons, and Hangman Adam Page amount to four members. Both teams will be looking to pick a standout talent for their side, but who will they pick? Will they choose an AEW talent, or will they look elsewhere to bring that added element of surprise? The wrestling world awaits these answers with baited breath this Wednesday night on Dynamite.
