This week’s AEW Collision comes off an exciting weekend after two exciting episodes of TV, with Rampage and the second episode of Collision, respectively, as we preview AEW Collision for 7/1/23. As well as this, there was the sequel to Forbidden Door that featured an abundance of exciting moments and dream crossover matches.
After two successful episodes of the new Saturday show, AEW Collision, the company looks to create another great card with many exciting competitions, including the remaining quarterfinals of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
AEW Collision for 7/1/23
Dustin Rhodes vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
(Men’s Owen Hart Tournament Quarterfinal)
After a rough patch for Powerhouse Hobbs from losing the TNT Championship to Wardlow on the April 19th edition of Dynamite, he looks to get back on track by advancing in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament on Collision.
However, he was a 34-year veteran standing in his way in Dusting Rhodes, who has announced that his retirement is coming near and wants to go out huge. He has strong motivations going into this matchup to advance.
The winner will face either Juice Robinson or Ricky Starks in the semi-finals. So, will the Powerhouse boulder his way through to the semi-finals to get himself back on track? Or will the Natural use his in-ring experience to outsmart Hobbs for one final achievement before he hangs up the boots?
AEW Collision for 7/1/23
Samoa Joe vs. Roderick Strong
(Men’s Owen Hart Tournament Quarterfinal)
Roderick Strong made his AEW debut on the April 26th edition of Dynamite and quickly looks to gain accolades by becoming the second man to win the Owen Hart Cup. In order to achieve this, Strong must defeat Samoa Joe, who has been on a tear since winning the ROH TV Title last year and looks to gain more gold.
These two men last faced off in 2006 in ROH, but a lot has changed since then, with both having stints in WWE and many more years of experience under their belts. This makes for a more interesting bout this time. Roderick Strong will look to pick up the pace with his fast offense, and Joe will look to take his opponent down, but either way, it goes, it promises to be a hard-hitting affair.
The winner of the match will go on to face CM Punk in the semi-finals. So will the Messiah of the Backbreaker keep his undefeated streak in AEW, knocking off the ROH Television Champion and going one step closer to the Owen Hart Cup? Or will the King Of Television take out Roderick Strong for a long-awaited rematch with the Best In The World en route to winning the tournament?
AEW Collision for 7/1/23
Juice Robinson vs. Ricky Starks
(Men’s Owen Hart Tournament Quarterfinal)
Since Bullet Club Gold formed in AEW, their main target has been Ricky Starks, laying him out and defeating him every chance they have got, both in singles and tag action. Starks, who has grown increasingly frustrated with the under-handed tactics, looks to get a measure of revenge this Saturday as he goes to battle ‘Juice Robinson in the quarterfinals.
Ever since the dissension of Team Taz, Ricky Starks has never been able to win when it really mattered, whether it was to Hobbs on PPV at All Out 2022 or losing to MJF for the AEW Championship at Winter Is Coming 2022, so winning the Owen Hart Cup would truly raise him to a new level. On the other hand, Juice Robinson has tasted gold in the past with the IWGP United States Championship and would love to add some lineage to BC Gold.
The winner of this match will advance to the semi-finals to face either Powerhouse Hobbs or Dustin Rhodes. So, will the Absolute get a measure on payback on BC Gold and knock off Robinson on his path back to the top? Or will Rock Hard use the Bullet Club antics to take out Starks to advance?
AEW Collision for 7/1/23
Kris Statlander (c) vs. Lady Frost
(AEW TBS Championship)
Ever since winning the AEW TBS Championship, Kris Statlander has been on a mission to create a legacy of a fighting champion, taking on opponents such as Taya Valkyrie and Nyla Rose and looks to continue this streak with another defense against high-flying Lady Frost.
With Statlander being forced out of the ring for an extended period of time twice in her career in AEW, the TBS Champion is looking to maximize her time competing by defending the title and increasing the title’s legacy in the process. Despite many impressive performances in AEW and ROH, Lady Frost has not gained a significant win to raise her profile, and a title victory over a big name such as the champion would be the landmark win to put her on the map.
So, will the return tour for Kris Statlander continue as she picks up another title defense to continue her winning ways ad define her legacy as TBS Champion? Or will Lady Frost get the upset to get the biggest win over her career and the TBS Championship?

MJF Makes His Collision In-Ring Debut
This Saturday, on the third episode of Collision, the AEW World Title will be making its first appearance as the champion, MJF, will be making his in-ring debut on the weekend show. Preparing for the blind tag eliminator tournament, he will be facing a mystery opponent that will be revealed on the show.
The Salt of the Earth is coming off one of the biggest wins in his young career by defending the AEW World Championship, the NJPW Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi. However, being forced to pair with an enemy in Adam Cole, as well as having to compete on free TV, he is sure to be in a foul mood and may be dangerous for his opponent.
So, will MJF make good in his Collision debut with another impressive victory in 2023, or will his mystery opponent use his unknown status to his advantage to earn the upset? And what will the AEW World Champion have to say?
What To Expect:
- Will Jay White continue to get under the skin of CM Punk?
- Who will emerge to be the first challenge to Christian’s TNT Championship?
- Will the House of Black continue to haunt and attack Andrade El Idolo?
- What will the fallout be from the second edition of Forbidden Door?
