Will Saturday be the end of Bryan Danielson’s title reign at WrestleDream 2024?

As All Elite Wrestling moves into a new era with their big television deal, we have some really personal feuds heading into their next pay-per-view. It is time for the 2nd annual WrestleDream from the Tacoma Dome!

This card has a strong lineup of ten matches. Seven titles are on the line, a huge two-out-of-three falls match, and Swerve Strickland’s massive return. Let’s look at what should be a great card in Tacoma.

    WrestleDream 2024
    Swerve Strickland Returns

It has been a rough couple of months for the former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland. He lost his World Title to Bryan Danielson at AEW All-In.

He followed that up by losing to long-time rival Hangman Adam Page in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage Match at AEW All Out. That match ended with injuries to Strickland.

Strickland has been missing since AEW All Out, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been discussed on AEW television.

MVP arrived at Grand Slam and told Prince Nana that MVP wanted to represent Strickland going forward. What will Swerve have to say as he returns to WrestleDream? It should be an interesting moment in front of the hometown crowd in Tacoma.

    WrestleDream 2024
Hangman Adam Page vs. Jay White

On a recent AEW Dynamite, Hangman Adam Page defeated the Bang Bang Gang’s Juice Robinson in a ten-minute match. After the match, Page proceeded to choke Robinson with Page’s belt. That is until a returning Jay White came to make the save.

Jay White had been out of action for nearly three months. He had a warm-up match on Title Tuesday, but can he be ready for the dangerous Page?

The last time they faced off was in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in July. Can White even the score at WrestleDream?

    WrestleDream 2024
    Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos

    (2 Out of 3 Falls)

Hologram has taken AEW by storm since debuting on AEW Collision in July. The talented luchador has quickly become a crowd favorite. And he is undefeated too.

Hologram’s biggest rival has been the talented and dangerous Beast Mortos. But Mortos has never defeated Hologram in All Elite Wrestling. That might be why he attacked him after Hologram’s recent Dynamite debut.

At WrestleDream, these two rivals will face off against each other yet again. This time it will be 2 Out of 3 Falls. If it is anything like their previous encounters, we are in for something very special on Saturday night.

    WrestleDream 2024
Mark Briscoe (c) vs. Chris Jericho
    (ROH World Championship)

At AEW Collision Grand Slam, Jericho picked up the pinfall victory in a Trios Tornado Match over The Conglomeration. “The Learning Tree” pinned the Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe. But what happened next was truly shocking.

On the October 2nd Dynamite, Jericho hosted Briscoe in a television segment. And shockingly, he decided to bring up Mark’s late brother Jay Briscoe.

Mark didn’t take too kindly to the reference and punched Jericho in the jaw. The ROH World Title match was on for WrestleDream.

We know Chris Jericho is playing mind games with Briscoe. Can Briscoe focus and retain the title that means so much to him? If not, Chris Jericho will become a two-time ROH World Champion.

    WrestleDream 2024
Jack Perry (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata

    (TNT Championship)

Jack Perry has been a fighting champion since winning the TNT Championship at Forbidden Door. In recent months, he has defeated Christopher Daniels, Lio Rush, and Minoru Suzuki. However, it hasn’t always been by the cleanest means.

Enter Katsuyori Shibata. The Japanese legend has been chopping his way through the AEW and ROH rosters. He challenged Jack Perry for the TNT Championship in Tacoma.

Can Perry outlast his toughest test to date? His chest will undoubtedly be quite red after Saturday night.

    WrestleDream 2024
    Darby Allin vs. Brody King

It was an interesting decision for Darby Allin to put his AEW World Title shot on the line against Jon Moxley at AEW Grand Slam. He lost the match and the future title shot. What would come next for the self-proclaimed “Face of AEW”?

He put on an Open Challenge for WrestleDream. It was answered by his long-time rival, Brody King. They have had a lot of brutal and bloody battles over the years in AEW and other promotions.

Can Darby Allin get back on track? Or will Brody King deliver another heartbreaking loss? It is just another battle in their great rivalry.

    WrestleDream 2024
The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) (c) vs.
    Private Party (Zay and Quen)
    (AEW World Tag Team Championship)

Private Party is on a hot streak as it heads into WrestleDream. It started when they defeated the Young Bucks as part of a Trios Match on a recent Rampage. They followed it up by winning a 3 Way Tag Team match on the next episode of Collision.

That victory earned them a shot against the Young Bucks for the Tag Team titles at the Tacoma Dome.

Private Party famously upset the Young Bucks in the early days of AEW Dynamite in 2019. The Bucks returned the favor in a tournament match this year.

Who will win the rubber match at WrestleDream? We know The Elite will stop at nothing to hold the titles Saturday night.

Mariah May (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
    (AEW Women’s World Championship)

Mariah May has been vicious since winning the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In. She has defeated the title successfully three times and has been brutal to her opponents as well. With Toni Storm absent, who can stop May?

Enter Willow Nightingale. Willow had a bit of a rough patch recently. She lost to Kris Statlander at AEW All Out. She also recently lost her CMLL Women’s World Title to Zeuxis. But Willow is never easily deterred.

On Title Tuesday, Willow defeated three other women to earn a title shot at WrestleDream. While May has undoubtedly a lot of confidence, she overlooks Nightingale at her own peril.

The former CMLL Women’s World Champion and Owen Hart Foundation winner will be May’s toughest test to date.

Will Ospreay (c) vs. Ricochet vs. Konosuke Takeshita
    (AEW International Championship)

The long-time rivals Will Ospreay and Ricochet were having another classic for the AEW International Championship on the 5th Anniversary show. These two have had many, many high flying encounters over years.

Just as it looked like Will was about to claim a huge victory over his rival, Konosuke Takeshita attacked him. It was the rare Disqualification in AEW.

Konosuke Takeshita is desperate for a title. In the past few months, he has participated in an IWGP World Title Eliminator, a TNT Title Ladder Match, and an AEW Continental Title 4 Way.

But he has sadly lost all of them as well. Is this finally the turning point to winning a major title in AEW?

It is the potential show-stealer on Saturday night. Will Ospreay and Ricochet be too focused on each other and ignore the threat of Takeshita? If they do, we might have a new International Champion.

Bryan Danielson (c) vs Jon Moxley
    (AEW World Championship)

The Blackpool Combat Club was one of the strongest stables in All Elite Wrestling. They had many great matches over the years. That all changed at AEW All Out.

After Danielson’s victory over Jack Perry, Jon Moxley entered the ring to celebrate with his BCC ally. That is until Moxley attacked Danielson and proceeded to suffocate him with a plastic bag. It was a shocking and violent betrayal to say the least.

After winning a title shot at Grand Slam, the dangerous Moxley will face his former friend for the AEW World Championship. We now know the lengths Jon will go to in trying to win the title.

Can Danielson match that intensity in what could be his final match as a full-time competitor? It will definitely be a personal main event in Danielson’s home state on Saturday night.
