NJPW STRONG High Alert rolls into its second week from the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, with the NJPW STRONG Synopsis for 8/20/22. With the G1 Climax behind us, the stars of NJPW will return to square off with the young lions of the LA Dojo.

Last week we saw Aussie Open crowned as the inaugural NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions, but there’s still much action to come, including a heavyweight bout and a NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship defense. This week features an NJPW STRONG debut, a grudge match from AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, and a superstar junior heavyweight 3-way bout.

As always, the NJPW STRONG Synopsis will be here to break down everything on the card this Saturday night on NJPW World and FITE TV.

    Drew Adler vs. JR Kratos

Kicking off High Alert week 2, we will see NJPW STRONG newcomer Drew Adler take on the muscle of Team Filthy, JR Kratos. The Charlotte, North Carolina audience will be familiar with Adler from his 13-year career on the southeast indie circuit, along with appearances for ROH and NWA.

Adler will be looking to do his local fans proud as he faces JR Kratos this Saturday night. JR Kratos has been on a tear in recent weeks, dominating Jordan Cruz at Ignition and Alex Coughlin’s team at Collision. In fact, JR Kratos has yet to be pinned or submitted in singles action in 2022.

While JR Kratos’s strategy centers around his impressive power, Drew Adler is no slouch in that regard. Will Adler use his size and strength to pick up a shock win over Team Filthy’s muscle? Or will Adler wind up as just another chew toy while Kratos waits for Alex Coughlin to return?

    Rocky Romero vs. Dax Harwood

At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta came within their fingertips of capturing the ROH and NJPW Tag Team Titles. However, it was Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler who walked away with the four belts that night. Now Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta of Roppongi Vice want to get back into the championship chase.

To that end, Rocky Romero issued a challenge to the self-proclaimed Top Guys, FTR. If Romero can pick up the victory on Saturday night, Roppongi Vice could be next challengers for the NJPW Tag Team Titles. However, newly-crowned NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions Aussie Open have also issued a challenge to #FTR.

If Rocky Romero scores the pinfall, we may see another three-way situation for the next NJPW Tag Team Title match.

Blake Christian vs. El Desperado vs. Hiromu Takahashi

In the evening’s main event, three of the brightest junior heavyweights will duke it out for divisional dominance. Originally the match was scheduled to feature Desperado, Takahashi, and Clark Connors, who had to pull out due to a herniated disk. NJPW STRONG officials decided on Blake Christian as his replacement after “All Heart’s” impressive display against Takahashi at music city mayhem.

In this main event outing, Blake Christian has an opportunity to make his biggest statement yet in an NJPW ring. However, he may find himself taking a backseat to the bitter rivalry between El Desperado and Hiromu Takahashi. The loss to Takahashi at Best of the Super Juniors must be weighing on El Desperado’s mind, but will he be able to get his win back?

A win over Blake Christian and Hiromu Takahashi may be just the ticket for El Desperado to get back into the hunt for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship.
