Gorgeous George

When we think about professional wrestlers, we picture a myriad of colorful characters that spring to mind. Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Undertaker, Andre the Giant, and a slew of others all captured our imaginations with the vibrant, larger-than-life characters they portrayed. However, professional wrestlers weren’t always like this. Had you asked somebody a century ago to describe a professional wrestler, it is unlikely they’d be describing a character to you at all. That’s not because Kayfabe didn’t exist. It was in its infancy in the 1920s, but because the pro wrestling gimmick as we understand it hadn’t been invented…

Adrian Street

Adrian Street came from a coal mining family in Brynmawr, Wales. Before he was one year old, his father, Emrys Street, was conscripted into WWII. The young Adrian only knew of his father through what his mother told him. The British Army stationed Emrys in the Pacific, where Japanese forces captured him. The UWF Beach Brawl

On June 9th, 1991, The Universal Wrestling Federation held their first pay-per-view event. The Supercard, known as The UWF Beach Brawl, would also be their last pay-per-view event. Abrams announced the launch of his Universal Wrestling Federation at the Wrestling Fans Fantasy Weekend convention in August…

Ricky Steamboat

Ricky Steamboat. In the early 1990s, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat was in a tough spot. Having returned to the WWF after a storied run with the NWA, Steamboat seemed to be just another face. The Dragon was racking up wins over jobbers every week, but nothing ever seemed to come his way. Making matters worse, WWE top brass lumbered Steamboat with a more cartoonish version of his “Dragon” persona, sporting a draconic-inspired headdress and breathing fire on his way to the ring. And on top of all that, commentators barely referenced his iconic Intercontinental Championship win over Randy Savage at…
