Welcome back to the NJPW STRONG Synopsis for 9/17/22, your weekly breakdown of all the goings-on in the world of NJPW STRONG. Last week, we saw Aussie Open make their first televised defense of the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships, along with a Lucha Libre masterclass and a Junior Heavyweight Showdown.

This week, the Young Lions roll into week 2 of Fighting Spirit Unleashed from The Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles. We will see the NJPW STRONG debut of “Pretty” Peter Avalon, Team Filthy in action, and reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion “Switchblade” Jay White leading BULLET CLUB in a colossal 8-man tag team main event.

It will be an exciting evening when NJPW STRONG airs this Saturday night on NJPW World and FITE TV.

Week 2 of Fighting Spirit Unleashed begins with some singles action, where we will see AEW’s ‘Pretty’ Peter Avalon face off against Adrian Quest. These two competitors go way back, as “Young Fuego” got his start in the business training under ‘The Pretty One.’

While Peter Avalon will be looking to impress in his first ever NJPW STRONG match, his former protégé will want to prove he’s his own man now. Will Peter Avalon top his former student, or will the AEW Dark curse follow him to NJPW STRONG?

Jordan Cruz & Cody Chhun vs. Team Filthy (Tom Lawlor & JR Kratos)

In our 2nd match of the night, we’ll see a pair of returning faces in Jordan Cruz and Cody Chhun. Both Cruz and Chhun each have one previous outing on STRONG to their name, and both in losing efforts. Chhun arrived on the scene back at February’s New Beginning USA Series, where he put on an impressive show in his losing effort to Hikuleo.

Similarly, Jordan Cruz’s NJPW STRONG Record stands at 0-1, with a loss to the monstrous JR Kratos to his name. These two have teamed up to issue a joint challenge to “Most Feared.” Muscular as JR Kratos is, he’s not lacking at all in brains, and he’s chosen to bring in a partner of his own.

Joining Kratos this Saturday night is Team Filthy leader Tom Lawlor, fresh off his Japanese debut at the G1 Climax Tour. Lawlor did the LA Dojo proud, going 3-3 in the prestigious tournament. But now he’s coming back to NJPW STRONG with the intent to recapture the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship.

“The Filthy One” will be looking to hit the ground running this Saturday night when he teams up with JR Kratos to take on Jordan Cruz and Cody Chhun on NJPW STRONG.

Taylor Rust, Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero & KUSHIDA vs. BULLET CLUB (Jay White, Juice Robinson, Hikuleo, & Chase Owens)

We have an all-star main event in store for us this Saturday night when the LA Dojo’s finest join forces with KUSHIDA to take on “Switchblade” Jay White and BULLET CLUB. The last time BULLET CLUB appeared on NJPW STRONG was in a victory over NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Fred Rosser, Kevin Knight and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

While Jay White went 5-1 in the G1 Climax, his stablemates had a more disappointing run. Juice Robinson and Chase Owens ended the tournament at 2-4 each. They’re looking to re-establish their dominance in NJPW.

Meanwhile, their opponents this Saturday night each have something to prove. KUSHIDA is looking to make a statement toward rival and current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori. Similarly, Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta are trying to state their case for a shot at IWGP Tag Team Champions FTR.

And finally, Taylor Rust is trying to rack up a win before the end of the year. An awful lot rides on this all-star main event this Saturday night on an all-new NJPW STRONG.

Please share with us what you expect to happen on this week’s edition of NJPW STRONG in the comment section below.
