WWE Raw and Smackdown Live Recapatory for 8/19/19 (Rollins And The Fiend)

Monday Night Raw opens with the WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins coming out to ringside..potentially to address The Fiend? He and Braun Strowman lost the Raw Tag Team Championships to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler at Clash of Champions. Because of that, he’s only sporting one title tonight. Rollins does an in-ring promo and talks about the matches at Clash of Champions. Shortly after mentioning what happened to him at the hands of The Fiend. Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Funhouse theme played and Bray popped up on the screen. He ended the segment by telling Rollins that The Fiend might have something else to say to him later tonight.

As they were going to commercial, the match preview graphic for the King of the Ring final between Chad Gable and Baron Corbin was upside down. Freaky…was this a way of having The Fiend impose himself against Rollins?

Braun was shown walking backstage in a huff. As he was interviewed, he told Charlie that the reason he’s here is that the next person that steps foot in the ring is going to get these hands.

The new Raw Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler come out to ringside sporting the new titles they captured the night before. Immediately following them were The Revival, the new Smackdown tag team champions, make their way to ringside as well. They were attempting to have a tag team Summit but were interrupted by the Monster Amongst Men, Braun Strowman. He destroyed everyone in and outside the ring. The only one to escape unscathed was Robert Roode, who we learned had a match against Seth Rollins later tonight.

Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, the women’s Tag Team Champions, are backstage sipping tea/coffee out of mugs and talking about Bayley and Sasha, their opponents later tonight.

United States Champion AJ Styles & The OC make their way to the ring to face Cedric Alexander and The Viking Raiders in a six-man tag team championship. The Viking Raiders are not having their usual squash match this week by the looks of it. The OC gave them all they could handle.

Cedric Alexander was still seeking some sort of retribution after falling victim to AJ Styles at Clash of Champions. That retribution would have to wait as he fell victim to a phenomenal forearm by AJ Styles and was pinned in the middle of the ring.

After the match, another brawl erupted with Ivar of the Viking Raiders going up to the top rope and diving onto Gallows & Anderson. Back inside the ring and Cedric Alexander tried to get the upper hand on AJ Styles but fell victim to a second rope Styles Clash as AJ stood victorious over Cedric once again.

The WWE 24/7 champion, R-Truth and Carmella are in a museum on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mayor Glenn Jacobs shows up (we know him as the big red monster Kane) He invites R-Truth along with him for a tour in his limo.

The King of the Ring final between Chad Gable and Baron Corbin is next. They put up a graphic that showed the height and weight disparity between the two. The announcers put over the fact that Gable has fought an uphill battle in order to make it to the final. Corey Graves mentioned the fact that Baron Corbin had to compete in a triple threat match to make it into the final.

Baron Corbin dominated the early portion of the match until Gable fired back and ended up securing the ankle lock on to Corbin. He eventually made his way to the ropes without tapping out. To the chagrin of the WWE Universe in attendance, Baron Corbin nailed Chad Gable with the End Of Days and he is now your 2019 WWE King of the Ring. Long Live King Corbin.

The Street Profits are in the back putting over the Maria Kanellis gender reveal party. She shows up and says, “It’s a boy.” She then tells Mike that Ricochet is the father of the baby. Kanellis slaps Ricochet and challenges him to a match.

Mike Kanellis comes out first for his match. He’s incensed and Ricochet is trying to get him to calm down but to no avail. There were lots of Maury references during the match. Ricochet picked up the quick win with the Recoil.

Bray’s Firefly Fun House is next. Bray is hanging pictures on his Wall of Friendship and says that he’s going out to find some new friends. Will the Fiend once again make an appearance against Seth Rollins?

Back to ringside, Maria is insulting Mike again telling him that she thought if she embarrassed him enough, it would spark a fire in him to defend her unborn child’s honor. She admitted Ricochet was not the father. She followed it up by saying that the real father was Rusev???? He comes out and Mike tries to tell him he doesn’t want any beef with Rusev but gets attacked anyway and as he assaults Mike, a referee comes out and a match is underway. Rusev makes him tap in a very short match.

Truth and Mayor Glenn Jacobs go to Volunteer stadium. Mayor Jacobs introduces Truth to a police officer. Only the police officer isn’t a police officer, he’s a referee. As Truth tries to leave, he runs into the field goal post and Mayor Jacobs covers him to win the 24/7 Championship. As he escapes up the tunnel, he yells, “I still got it!”

Rey Mysterio out next to face Cesaro. On the way to the ring, Cesaro tells Rey he should have retired. He also tells him that if Rey’s son shows up, he’s gonna beat the hell out of him. Rey Mysterio would go on to pick up the win.

Bray’s Firefly Fun House is next. He doesn’t say anything but hangs a picture of Seth Rollins on his Wall of Friendship. Michael Cole, Renee Young, and Corey Graves are on the screen and they talk about Smackdown Live moving to Fox. There will be a draft (which Mark Blake spoke about right here) on the first night of the new move.

AOP has been missing most of the year, but a video is shown of Akam and Razar with subtitles on the screen, Both men talk about not being on television because the tag team division is soft and nobody wants to fight them. They proclaim themselves the future of the WWE tag team division.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss took on The Boss Sasha Banks and the Smackdown Women’s champion Bayley in a tag team match. Midway through the match, Alexa Bliss had to be escorted to the back due to a knee injury. It ended up being a handicap match as Nikki had to face Bayley and Sasha by herself.

Nikki gave the Boss-N-Hug Connection all they could handle but fell victim to the Bank Statement. After the match was over Sasha Banks grabbed a chair and looked to attack Nikki. The Man Becky Lynch ran down to ringside with her own chair. That prompted Bailey to grab a chair as well as she and Sasha would attempt to jump Becky.

Charlotte Flair would then come to ringside and even the odds. Flair and Becky Lynch got the better of Sasha Banks and Bayley. The Boss-N-Hug Connection would console each other outside the ring as the segment ended.

Back from commercial, Sasha Banks is in the locker room and cuts an angry promo on Becky Lynch challenging her to a Hell in the Cell match.

A video is then shown where Truth is seen sitting on top of Mayor Jacob’s limo as it pulls into the arena. Mayor Jacobs/Kane gets out of the limo with the 24/7 championship but Truth immediately rolls him up to win it back the championship!

Becky Lynch is shown backstage and she officially accepts Sasha’s challenge for a match at Hell in a Cell.

Lacey Evans faced off against Dana Brooke was next. Dana hadn’t been on television for quite some time. Dana was game, but she suffered a Woman’s Right followed up by a Sharpshooter, to send a message to Natalya.

WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins would end the show by taking on one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions Robert Roode, would we see The Fiend again? He didn’t come alone as Dolph Ziggler accompanied him to ringside. After about 10 minutes, Ziggler interjected himself in the match which instantly DQ’d Roode. They immediately attacked Seth Rollins and even got help from AJ Styles and the OC, who all took turns getting their finishers on the WWE Universal champion.

The Big Red Machine, Kane, would make the save for Seth. But as he went to pose by the ring post, the lights flickered and The Fiend was behind him! The Fiend gave Kane the Mandible Claw and would then crawl over to a shaken Seth Rollins. He glared at him as the lights flickered again to end the show. Rollins quivered in the corner as The Fiend imposed his will. What will happen next week between Rollins and The Fiend?

SmackDown Live

Smackdown Live began with The New Day facing off against Randy Orton and The Revival in a six-man tag team match. The New Day would pick up the win, but their celebration would be short-lived as Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar made their way out. Paul, on Brock’s behalf, would challenge Kofi for the WWE Championship on the first Smackdown on Fox. Kofi accepted the challenge but suffered an F5 from Brock shortly after.

Sasha Banks and Bayley were backstage and Sasha talked about being the star of the Women’s Division and how she’ll destroy all the wannabes. She has a match against Charlotte later.

Michael Cole interviewed Eric Rowan and asked him about Luke Harper’s return at the Clash Of Champions. He said that he’s tired of people like Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan disrespecting him.

Sami Zayn introduced the Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura. Ali was out next, not for a match but a promo segment. Zayn insulted Ali then held his leg while Nakamura attacked him.

Kevin Owens was shown sitting in the audience as Shane McMahon was in his office. Shane gets served with some papers and he looks visibly upset him. As we come back from commercial, Shane McMahon comes down to the ring flanked by security. He tells the security to stand by the barricade. He then does his over-the-top best in the world entrance and soon gets down to business.

He’s holding a copy of a wrongful termination lawsuit that Kevin Owens filed against him. He invited Kevin Owens into the ring and told him that his case was weak. Kevin Owens gave his reply and told Shane that when he wins he not only gets 25 million dollars, but he also gets to stand in the ring and tell Shane McMahon, “You’re fired!”

The AOP promo video from Raw is shown again.

Offset, from the rap group Migos, introduces Charlotte Flair to a huge pop. The Queen was out to face off against The Boss, with Bayley at ringside. After about 10 minutes, Bayley caused the disqualification after she rolled into the ring and kicked Charlotte Flair, who had applied the Figure 8 on Sasha. Post-match, the two put a beat down on Charlotte until Carmella ran down for the save. She and Charlotte look to be forming a union as they cleared the ring.

King of the Ring winner Baron Corbin was out next for his coronation ceremony. He called out Chad Gable and made several short jokes after beating him for the King of the Ring title on Monday Night Raw. Chad Gable speared King Corbin through his throne and attacked him with a scepter. He then destroyed his crown to the delight of the crowd.

Heavy Machinery defeated The B team of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in a pretty short squash match.

Daniel Bryan came out to the ring to finish the show. He wanted to talk about Rowan. Daniel claims that he never treated Rowan with any kind of disrespect and he never lied to him. This caused Rowan to come out and say that he was tired of standing behind Daniel Bryan. He was tired of him not letting him speak. He claimed he wouldn’t be disrespected any longer. Luke Harper snuck into the ring and hit Bryan with a sneak attack. Both Harper and Rowan worked over Bryan until Roman Reigns ran down and made the save. He did his best but the numbers caught up to him as Harper and Rowan destroyed both Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan to end the show.

What's up folks, I'm Hab and I've been a wrestling fan for more than thirty years. I grew up on the NWA and Crockett Promotions in the Triad City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. My favorite wrestler of all time is Bret Hart. At the moment, I'm a Cesaro hipster and The World's Biggest Luke Harper fan. I was at the Smackdown! taping when Brock Lesnar threw Zach Gowen down a flight of steps in the New Orleans Arena and laughed about it for the next two days. I have a few loves in my life, my beautiful daughter, my family, professional wrestling and hip-hop are just some of them.
