In just a few short weeks Hiroshi Tanahashi will face off against Chris Jericho on night two of Wrestle Kingdom 14. A Legend vs Legend match. In a recent press interview to hype the show, Tanahashi commented that if he defeated Jericho, he will “open the forbidden door”.

The line “open the forbidden door”? He means he will ask All Elite Wrestling officials for a shot at Jericho’s AEW Heavyweight Championship.

Hiroshi’s comments to Tokyo Sports can be found here.

Tanahashi also speculates in the above interview that by beating Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14, could lead to a possible relationship between All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Blake’s Take – Is this a back door way of acknowledging a future AEW/NJPW relationship? Or is The Ace just hyping his match at Wrestle Kingdom 14? I think I speak for quite a few fans out there when I say I’m hoping for the former. Tanahashi beating Jericho and then getting an AEW title shot?

AEW are doing okay so far with their roster. But could you imagine an influx of NJPW talent every now and again? Tanahashi actually in AEW? Bullet Club shenanigans every once and a while? Ospreay and Eagles versus Private Party? Okada renewing his rivalry with Omega? The possibilities are fruitful and endless. I really do hope Tana isn’t yanking our collective chain.
