As our two hosts stroll back into the bar with a can of Shandy in one hand and an extra large black coffee in the other, the discussion this week turned to a pair of topics in particular in episode 22 of the Pro Wrestling Post Podcast.
What do a barbed wire catch match and a Judy Bagwell on a Pole have in common? Listen up below to find out.
In the latest edition of the podcast, the duo explored various themed matches, from what they had heard of to what held a warm place in their hearts to some of the most uniquely themed matches either had heard of. One of our hosts even made a proclamation about one of these matches!
The other topic discussed is this weekend’s upcoming AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view, with the matches that stand out to both hosts for better or worse and the build-up to these respective matches.
But like any two passionate wrestling fans who shared their admiration of all things wrestling, it was important to us which themed matches resonated with us from the past and which upcoming booked matches resonated with us going into Double or Nothing.
It is important to acknowledge that for all the tidings of sunshine our two hosts tried to sprinkle, they would be remiss if they didn’t be on a tad of a political note without intending to. What are we referring to? Click the links at the bottom of this post to hear more.

Which themed wrestling matches were among our all-favorite?
As our hosts spoke of the varying types of themed matches that stood out to them only a few on the stop allowed them to stop and take notice.
Both Blake and Madison recognized that today’s gimmicked or stylized matches are as much tied to the fabrics of their youth as they are to today’s professional wrestling landscape.
That said, the two hosts touched upon which themed matches stood out to them from the earlier days of the WWF, WCW, and NWA.
While we won’t reveal here what they happen to be, they came across among the most unique booked matches they had ever heard of upon their Wikipedia dive!
Whether these were matches that have become all too common and still manage to capture the attention of audiences today matches that carried with them such a graphic and barbaric nature, it would be impossible to turn away from the carnage that was to come!
So, while both men picked matches that would be easy to watch with family and friends, it was the discovery of some themed matches that pushed the envelope in the direction of either bizarre, absurd, or ridiculous that it would be impossible to decide how they came to be.

AEW presents Double or Nothing 2024
As our hosts prepare for the upcoming fifth annual Double or Nothing, they acknowledge that it is also the fifth anniversary of the promotion’s first pay-per-view event.
But like any company with ups and downs, our hosts paid attention to the booking of this particular event, their general enthusiasm and interest in it, and what they are most looking forward to seeing.
Blake and Madison discussed a few of the matches that stand out to them, either good, bad, or even overlooked. While some matches are booked with a great deal of attention, our hosts ask about who isn’t there and why? Can we expect to see them return?
With a triple main event promoted for the show, the question is why hasn’t someone who is defending their title on this night and among the biggest successes in the promotion NOT considered a part of the triple main event?
Of the matches discussed, which ones have we been the most surprised by and the least anticipated for on this night and why?

Who’s House? Swerve’s…likely….but…
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the current booking of current AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Swerve Strickland.
Our hosts discussed his being punished (in his current storyline with Christian Cage) for his past sins and his unapologetic nature or willingness to do it all over again.
While both Blake and Madison conveyed which title matches and non-titles matches they were looking forward to, they also shared a genuine frustration and uncertainty when it came to the most anticipated matches and why.
But should they in all? The perplexed host’s outlook on Double or Nothing isn’t all grim but isn’t all roses either.
