Last Friday night, on the inaugural episode of AEW Rampage, Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega for the IMPACT World Championship. As a result, Brian Myers will face Cage instead of Omega for the championship this Friday night at Emergence. With such a huge change to the card just one week before, what twists could happen this Thursday night on AXS TV? We’ll take a look at what you can expect from Skyway Studios in this week’s Brace For IMPACT for 8/19/21!

    Mahabali Shera vs Matt Cardona

Last Thursday, Matt Cardona faced IMPACT Wrestling newcomer John Skyler in what was sure to be an exciting, fast-paced affair. That did not come to pass, however, as Rohit Raju and Mahabali Shera came into the arena. The dastardly do then took turns taking potshots at Cardona from ringside, allowing Skyler to catch Cardona with a rollup. It looks like Matt Cardona and Rohit Raju are gearing up for a clash at Emergence. However, before Cardona can get his hands on Rohit, he’ll have to go through the hulking Mahabali Shera.

Moose & Ace Austin vs. Chris Sabin & Sami Callihan

These four men were the standout stars of the 20-man battle royal, which took place last Thursday. While none of them walked away with the #1 contendership, they each genuinely made the final four. It all seemed to come down to Moose and Chris Sabin until Brian Myers popped back into the ring to remind everybody he was still in the match. The Most Professional Wrestler unceremoniously dumped Moose and Sabin over the top rope to claim the #1 contendership.

While all four have reason to be gunning for Brian Myers for his underhanded win, they’ll have to wait until after Emergence. This week, however, they still have to settle the score from the battle royal. At the outset, this match looks pretty well balanced. While Ace Austin and Chris Sabin regularly make their presence felt in the tag team division, neither is working with their regular partner. As for their partner, it stands to reason that Ace Austin can work Moose better than Chris Sabin can work with a loose cannon like Sami Callihan. But I might be proven wrong this Thursday night on IMPACT Wrestling.

    Doc Gallows vs Joe Doering

A feud between The Good Brothers and Violent By Design has been brewing since Slammiversary. That night, The Good Brothers defeated VBD along with Fallah Bahh & No Way and Willie Mack & Rich Swann to recapture the IMPACT World Tag Team Titles. Having been champions walking into the match, Violent By Design are likely hungry for their rematch. That match will take place this Friday night at Emergence, but before that, the hosses of each team will face off in singles action.

When you think about it, Gallows and Doering have a lot in common. The pair are two big men from the Midwest who made their names in Japan before achieving tag team success in America. However, while Joe Doering simply steamrolls competition, Gallows takes a more clinical approach. We’ll see who’s style comes out on top when they clash in singles action this Thursday night.

As I said at the top of the preview, we have a new IMPACT World Champion. On the first-ever match on AEW’s new flagship program, Rampage, Cage defeated reigning champion Kenny Omega for the belts. Cage promised as much when he appeared on last week’s episode of IMPACT Wrestling. Later on that night, executive VP Scott D’Amore congratulated Cage on his championship victory.

This Thursday, Christian Cage returns to the IMPACT Zone for the first time in almost a decade. He’ll certainly be discussing his 3rd world championship reign in the company. But what else does he have planned beyond a title defense at Emergence? And is he ready for a rematch with Kenny Omega?

    What Else To Expect?

    • Melina is in action in the IMPACT Zone ahead of her match with The Virtuosa at NWA Empowerrr
    • Steve Maclin in action
    • DECAY in action
