The independent wrestling news weekly review for 6/29/20 is here. It will be your one-stop place to get all indie wrestling news. We will focus on promotions without a television program for this weekly review. During the last week, the main focus within indie promotions has been re-structure. It has also involved and closing due to the Speaking Out movement. At the same time, many indie promotions are unable to put on shows due to restrictions in place due to the Coronavirus outbreak, though GCW hosted their first fan attended show since the outbreak last week.

SMASH Wrestling continued their cancellation of shows adding all shows till the end of June 2020 to the list has been canceled.

SMASH Wrestling is also working on creating a new code of conduct. This has come about after conducting personal interviews with many of their female performers and staff. “We recognize that a number of names involved in horrible and inexcusable displays of bullying, harassment, and sexual assault have been involved in our events in the past. We’d like to assure all of our fans that none will ever be involved in one of our events in the future.” – SMASH Wrestling 

WrestlePro has announced their first show back since the Coronavirus outbreak, WrestlePro Alaska. This show will take place on the 19th of September 2020 and streamed live via their Facebook page. Matches include Anthony Bowens vs Deonn Rusman, Fallah Bahh vs Bobby Wayward. Colt Cabana, Joey Janela, and Orange Cassidy will also be in action.

ATTACK! Pro Wrestling has announced they will be taking an indefinite hiatus from running events. This move was decided to ensure the necessary changes could be made to protect wrestlers and fans at their events.

RIPTIDE Wrestling Goes On Hiatus

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the UK current lockdown regulations, RIPTIDE Wrestling has announced they will be refunding all events for the 2020 program.

A new wrestling promotion is launching in the UK called Wrestle Carnival. Details are thin at this time but as soon as further details become available you can find them here, in the Independent Wrestling News Weekly.

ECWA, the East Coast Wrestling Association has purchased WORLD-1 Wrestling, based in Morganville, NJ this week. ECWA also announced that they would be moving their Super 8 Tournament to the home of WORLD-1 Wrestling at the Jersey Dugout.

IPW:UK has announced that after 16 years of running wrestling shows in the UK they will be closing down. “We find these sickening actions outweigh anything we can or want to do with the brand so as it stands now and with immediate effect IPW:UK will no longer be an active promotion and we will not be looking to run the planned shows under the company banner.” – IPW: UK statement 

CHIKARA which was founded in 2002 has announced this week that they will be closing their doors after allegations surrounding their owner. Multiple indie wrestlers took to Twitter to resign from CHIKARA.

Game Changer Wrestling Ran Their First Live Event Since Shutdown The Wrld on GCW Part 2

GCW, Game Changer Wrestling ran their first live event since shutting down due to the COVID-19 crisis.  GCW: The WRLD on GCW Part 2 took place on Saturday, June 20th. Game Changer Wrestling also allowed fans to attend the event which was hosted outside at White River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana. Alex Zayne, Lee Moriarty, Tony Deppen, and Nick Gate all featured on the show.

 

Progress Wrestling have announced structural changes due to accusations raised by the Speaking Out movement. “We will build this from the ground back up. We’re shutting everything down, until we’re happy enough with the changes that we make, to re-open. We will be the pioneer for change that this industry needs at this moment.” – Progress Wrestling Statement 

TNT Extreme Wrestling have announced they will be bringing out a TNT Extreme comic series named Dead on Arrival.

British Wrestling Revolution has announced that Lucy Openshaw has been hired to join BWR leadership as a Chief Brand Officer. Lucy Openshaw will also join James Hannah as part of their safeguarding team.
