Lucha Libre News: ¡Esto es Lucha! for 1/21/20 (CMLL, IWRG)

Welcome to ¡Esto es Lucha! – the place to learn all about the different Promociones (promotions) of Lucha Libre! And this is the place to feel and know about Lucha Libre News and Culture in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Chile. 

This weekend, we will cover news in CMLL and IWRG. This time, in Esto es Lucha, we will know about some events and luchadors about these promotions. We’ll talk about the main events of the week and news about these promotions, so, let’s go to the Latino world wrestling.

CMLL

This week, on CMLL, we talk about the Tuesday event: Nuevos Valores and the Friday event: Viernes Espectacular. We have some results about the lucha libre matches more relevant to the night. Let’s do it.

Last Tuesday in Nuevos Valores event
CMLL presented the tournament Rey del Aire 2020 where we had 10 elements who are Drone, Templario, Rey Cometa, Kawato San, Principe Diamante, Akuma, Black Panther, Hijo del Signo, Star Jr, Virus, Esfinge y Disturbio. 

They were divided into two groups five tecnicos and five rudos. This tournament is by elimination. This year, they showed us great moves, emotion and, of course, a lot of dives. Last year, Titan defeated Templario. The match had good moments and great speed but the last ones were Star Jr and Templario. These are two great youngs luchadors who, the past year, showed us great skills. Templario was looking at his revenge and he supported all Star’s punishments but Templario applied Moonsault slam to get the victory and the cup.

On the same night, the main event was a Single match between Mistico and Mephisto.

This was a good match. Mephisto has been the eternal rival to Misticos (Caristico and Mistico). This time, he would take advantage of humility. Mephisto started with this goal. In the first fall, he didn’t leave for any opportunity to Mistico when Mephisto was tearing Mistico’s mask. He used all his courage and he took off Mistico’s mask. The first fall went to El Principe de Plata y Oro Mistico. The second fall was an amazing job of both and good spots. All their moves were performed in Arena Mexico and the crowd was yelling at every minute, supporting Mistico. He took advantage of fatigue of the match and he applied Frankensteiner form the top of the corner and that was enough to defeat Mephisto. Mistico took the microphone and asked Mask vs Mask match, so we hope that this match will happen this year.

Last Friday in Viernes Espectacular event 
Match Relampago between Templario and Rey Cometa

Templario came to the ring with all energy to Rey del Aire 2020. The match was full of speed and energy from both sides. Rey Cometa surprised us with a great Tornillo and then a somersault from the ring to ringside. With that, his strategy was to weaken Templario but Templario showed us why he is Rey del Aire and applied the Sasuke Special. They hit their moves and connected with the crowd. They made great spots and Templario finished the match with a Powerbomb from the top of the corner and Templario got another victory. It was a short match but with great moves for these luchadors.

The main event was a Rematch: Mistico, Diamante Azul, and Volador Jr vs Terrible, Gran Guerrero, and Shocker

The history of this rematch was between Mistico and Gran Guerrero. They had a rivalry and with the result last Friday, they asked another opportunity to show their supremacy. Gran Guerrero hurt Mistico when the fall started. Guerrero punished Mistico in all ringside. Mistico tried to hit a somersault to Guerrero but Guerrero caught him and throw him to the floor. Rudos controlled the situation. Gran Guerrero one more time tore Mistico’s mask.

When we thought that this fall would be to Rudos, Diamante applied a plancha from the ramp into the ring. The crowd was excited when Mistico executed a somersault from the ramp to ringside over Gran Guerrero. Volador and Diamante defeated Rudos to get the first fall. The second one, Guerrero tore Mistico’s mask but Mistico did the same. Volador and Diamante flew to Shocker and Terrible. The fall would end with the luchadors of the rivalry, Mistico and Gran Guerrero. Guerrero avoided La Mistica and took off Mistico’s mask one more time. Tecnicos gained the match in two falls. Mistico asked a single match this Friday.

This Friday, in another Viernes Espectacular, it will be a night of Mr. Niebla or Homenaje Mr. Niebla. CMLL will hold a special event to remember his great moments at Arena Mexico. Luchadors that have announced are Cavernario, Gran Guerrero, Mistico, Felino, Angel de Oro, Shocker, Ultimo Guerrero, Volador Jr and many more.

 

IWRG

IWRG has had a great two events in weeks prior where they had the opportunity to present Japanese luchadors. Shun Skywalker had his presentation with IWRG. They placed at Arena Naucalpan on different dates. So, Let’s check it the results.

Sunday, 12th of January
The main event: Shun Skywalker, Demonio Infernal, and Capo del Norte vs Fuerza Guerrera NG, Hijo del Pirata Morgan, and Relampago

At the beginning of the match Skywalker, Demonio, and Capo showed their rudos side. They slapped and kicked the tecnicos all around ringside. They also punished them with the barrel. Most relevant was the rivalry between Fuerza Guerrera NG and Demonio Infernal; Demonio did everything with him. Shun showed his skill, including his chemistry with his partners. But we thought that Rudos would be controlling the match with Carreta.

Relampago appeared and hit a hurricanrana on Demonio from the top of the rope. From there, Fuerza Guerrera hit a suicide dive on Demonio. Next, it was time to punish the rudos. Fuerza started to throw Demonio to chairs, executing punishment in the process. The tecnicos continued to punish the rudos. The match was exciting, Morgan and Relampago fighting with Shun and Capo among the crowd. Meanwhile, Guerrera and Demonio fought in the ring. What followed was a great sequence of dives by Morgan, Relampago, and Shun. In the middle of the ring were rivals Guerrera and Demonio. Guerrera defeated Demonio via submission when he applied La Reinera. Post-match, Guerrera challenged Demonio for the Intercontinental Championship next week.

Next week on PWP, we’ll have the results with the presentation of STRONGHEARTS and the Intercontinental Championship match also Next Sunday, IWRG will present a great event with the main event tag team match between STRONGHEARTS (CIMA and-Hawk) vs Los Golpeadores (Dragon Bane and Hijo de Canis Lupus) vs Puma King and Septimo Dragon. The semifinal match will be a trios match where Fuerza Guerrera NG, Super Nova, and Relampago will face El Lindaman, Emperador Azteca, and Black Terry.
