Former WWE star Damien Sandow (real name Aron Stevens) yesterday announced that he will be returning to the ring after nearly 2 and a half years away from wrestling.

The announcement, posted via his Instagram account, stated that he had an “epiphany” whilst watching a Battle Arts Pro show.

“I’m here in Toronto at Battle Arts Academy. I attended a wrestling show and I had an epiphany. I’ve been gone for two and a half years, look what’s happened to the world, look what’s happened to the business. The world needs me and the business needs me. So, tonight, the ‘Millennial Slayer’ was born. Stayed tuned.”

After leaving WWE and a year-long run in Impact Wrestling, Sandow decided to take a break from wrestling and try his hand at acting. It seems that former WWE star Santino Marella’s Battle Arts Pro has had a profound effect on him. Damien looks to have got physically involved at the show and seems to have found his first opponent if his next post is anything to go by –

As you can see from the above video, Sandow took a chair to Timothy O’Connor. It seems that he has chosen O’Connor to be his first opponent back in a wrestling ring. Their match will take place at the July 13 Battle Arts Pro event.

Blake’s Take: This is good news all around. Sandow/Rex/Stevens is back on the scene and seems to be hungry once more. We’ve seen from his “better than you” and stuntman gimmicks that he can make chicken salad out of chicken shit. I have high hopes that he can make this gimmick work, whatever this may turn out to be. If he raises his stock to pre Impact levels, could we see another great character driven wrestler make his way to All Elite Wrestling?
