Pro Wrestling Post Week In Review for 10/27/19

News! News! Get your news! I’m still “on assignment” in Southern Italy but I’m here as always with my weekly irrelevant round-up of the week’s hottest stories in pro wrestling. Pro Wrestling Post Week In Review 10/27/19. On occasion, I am “Not As Smart As” Mark Blake, have scoured the internet to find the biggest and most interesting stories despite the name on the snazzy banner.  We’re being cost-effective and not springing for a new banner (Hi Robbie :)) I’m Marc Madison and this week’s edition is brought to by the beautiful Italian countryside and the letter C for Cannoli.

That’s enough of me, let’s get into this week’s Week In Review! –

Jim Ross Criticizes WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins for Calling AEW the “Minor Leagues”

Earlier this week, on Jim Ross’ Grilling JR with Conrad Thompson, Ross opened his literal can of whoop-ass on current WWE Universal Champion, Seth Rollins. As reported here by Wrestlezone, Jr shares just why he was so upset at The Fiend Slayer’s comments.

“You’re right, I’m pissed off about it. Here’s what I’m pissed off about: Number one, it doesn’t do any favors for our business. Our business in general, any promotion in the total of all the pro wrestling business it’s bigger than any individual. Now I’m not inferring that Seth thinks he’s bigger than the business, but by what he says sometimes, you can make that assessment, rightly or wrongly, but it’s not a classy thing to say, for an athlete of his designation.”

He did go as far as to try and understand that the comments he made may not have been made for any other reason other than the pressure.

‘Well maybe Rollins is breaking under the pressure because he’s getting a lot of criticism.’ You know, here’s the deal folks: the WWE today is a whole different world than it was when guys were earning a buck or a downside guarantee significantly, based on what the live events and the PPVs were producing.”

Ross then goes into weaving his thoughts between his former promotion’s overall brand growth and one equally parting jab at Rollins with just a hint of disappointment and just a touch of concern.

“As another Hall of Famer has mentioned to me, it’s not about the individuals being over or drawing the house or selling out, it’s about the WWE brand selling out. Hence, the best illustration is WrestleMania. The brand name WrestleMania and the parent company, the big dog in the yard, WWE is what sells tickets to WrestleMania under the auspices that they’re going to do deliver a special show, opponents, and participants to be named. But Rollins is in a great spot, he’s blessed, maybe someday he’ll be as over as his girlfriend, I don’t know, but nonetheless, I’ve always liked his work. He’s a solid guy, he’s a solid guy, but saying things like that make him look bad and for that I feel bad for him. I just do.”

Tessa Blanchard on being IMPACT World Champion, Tully Blanchard & Intergender Wrestling

Week in Review 10/27/19

This past week former IMPACT Knockout’s Champion, Tessa Blanchard was interviewed by Chris Van Fleet. During their discussion, a number of different topics were covered a bevy of topics. Here is a list of excerpts from the interview below:

She shared on the chance of Winning the IMPACT World Championship:

“It’s not something that’s really been done since Chyna and that wasn’t even the world title. A lot of people compare me to her, a lot. I don’t know, I think if that were to ever happen, if that were ever to be reality, that would be another way that I can make history in my own way.”

Her father, Tully being a part of All Elite Wrestling:

“He texted me the other day ‘I’m at TV right now’ and I’m like ‘What? You didn’t even tell me!’ It is really really neat. All bias aside, the fact that he’s my dad, I’m his fan too. I’ll watch old-school Brain Busters, my Dad and Arn. I genuinely feel like they are so brilliant in this business and it’s such a waste if they weren’t in the business in some aspect. So, for AEW to have him, he’s so valuable, his mind is just…the way that he thinks in wrestling, it’s incredible, I’ve learned so much from him.”

One of Tessa’s passions is Intergender Wrestling. She opens up about how IMPACT Wrestling has embraced it:

“It’s something that I’ve always been passionate about because I trained with the guys, that’s the way I was brought up and I feel like it’s helped my timing, my transitions, my intensity, different things like that but it was actually something (Impact) approached me with and it just worked. It was very natural, not forced, it just worked and I think that’s why I love it so much.

To have the match with Sami Callihan, I didn’t know that we were going to be the main event until the night of. They told us that night and I thought they were kidding cause they mess with us all the time, I just thought they were kidding. So, that was special for me, that was my only PPV main event so far and then for it to be an inter-gender match, it’s cool because it’s a cool time for wrestling, it shows that wrestling is evolving.”

Kevin Nash retracts criticism of AEW segment between Chris Jericho and Cody from this past week on Dynamite

Earlier in the week former World Champion, Kevin Nash voiced his dislike of a segment that took place during Jericho’s interruption of Cody on Dynamite. In a series of tweets, Nash initially began with his criticism of Cody and a discussion from there ensues. The initial tweet is listed below while the subsequent tweets where Nash explains his rationale and logic behind it.

Nash’s criticism stemmed from Jericho having a ticket to the event and Cody being the head of the company and not telling them to cut off his microphone. Fans will recall Jericho and the remaining members of the Inner Circle had an altercation with Cody, Dustin Rhodes, MJF and DDP. Jericho had a live AEW branded microphone. It appeared as it was more of a logistical concern more than anything asking for an explanation of the segment. Jericho responded saying that Nash will ‘f***in get one’. In return, Nash addressed his own criticism and retracted the statement.
