Brace For IMPACT for 1/5/21 (First IMPACT! of 2021!)

After a two week break over the holidays, IMPACT Wrestling returns to AXS TV with the first in-ring matches of the new year. This week, IMPACT Wrestling has the opportunity to set the tone for 2021 as well as build to Genesis, the IMPACT Plus exclusive, this Saturday night. The unique position of being the first show of the new year and the go-home show for Genesis poses quite a challenge. But as ever, IMPACT Wrestling has risen to the occasion, and this card is absolutely stacked for a weekly television show. Without any further ado, here’s what you can expect this Tuesday night on IMPACT Wrestling. This is Brace for IMPACT for 1/5/21.

Sami Callihan Vs. Eddie Edwards

Though short, the history between Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards is full of stories. Since they first met in 2010, Sami Callihan has been determined to push Eddie Edwards to extreme limits. However, what Callihan usually forgets is that Edwards isn’t afraid to go to those dark places from time to time. The last time they met, Edwards took the fall following a Callihan piledriver in a tag team match. Callihan reignited their rivalry following Eddie and Alisha’s loss to Tenille Dashwood and Kaleb at Final Resolution. While Eddie tended to his wife’s injuries, Callihan slid under the bottom rope and laid into Eddie with his fists. But Eddie Edwards isn’t a man who’s about to take a sucker punch without retaliation. This week, will Eddie Edwards put Sami Callihan in his rearview mirror for good, or will Callihan finally push Eddie to his breaking point?

Rhino & Cousin Jake vs. Eric Young & Joe Doering

Since Turning Point, Eric Young and his disciple Joe Doering have been laying waste to the IMPACT Roster. Young and Doering have interrupted several matches, manhandling the competitors before declaring the world belongs to them. Over the past few weeks, Rhino has come to save those unfortunate enough to be in the ring when Young and Doering are around. However, he usually finds himself overwhelmed by the numbers.

At Final Resolution, Rhino faced Eric Young in singles action. Following the bout, Young and Doering prepared to lay a beatdown on the man-beast, only for Cody Deaner and Cousin Jake to make the save. However, instead of sticking up for Rhino, Deaner attacked his cousin. This week, Cousin Jake joins forces with Rhino to get revenge on Eric Young and Joe Doering. Will Cousin Jake’s help even the odds against Young and Doering? Or will Cody Deaner become part of Eric Young’s numbers game?

Jordynne Grace & Jazz vs. Havok & Neveah

After losing tag team matches with Tenille Dashwood and Alisha, Jordynne Grace has found a partner in Jazz. The women’s wrestling legend made her in-ring debut on the December 1st episode of IMPACT Wrestling. That night, Grace and Jazz defeated the debuting tag team of Renee Michelle and Killer Kelly in the first round of the Knockouts Tag Team Championship Tournament. While their first-round win may be chalked up to inexperienced opponents, that’s definitely not the case this week.

Havok & Neveah have been working as a unit since Neveah signed with IMPACT over the summer. It’s fair to say they helped kickstart the Knockouts tag team division. Havok & Neveah advanced to the 2nd round after defeating Alisha Edwards and Tenille Dashwood, mostly due to their opponent’s lack of chemistry. However, both teams now face an interesting challenge, as both teams excel in powerhouse and technical wrestling. Find out who advances to face Keira Hogan & Tasha Steelz at Hard To Kill to become inaugural Knockouts Tag Team Champions.

When he promised we’d see him on IMPACT Wrestling after AEW Winter is Coming, he held his word. Last time we saw the AEW World Champion and his manager, Don Callis, was on December 15th. That night, we saw Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers layout IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns. Following their beatdown on the champion and the former tag team champions, they made the match official: Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers will face Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns in Hard To Kill’s main event. Tuesday night, we’ll see more of Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers before their match on January 16th.
