For today’s WCW RetroView, we’re going back to the prime time years of WCW during the Monday Night War with WCW Clash of Champions 1997. The show begins with a video highlighting the matches set to take place on this card. Tony Schiavone welcomes us into an overabundance of pyro as he talks about the ongoing war between WCW and the nWo. Joining Schiavone are the two other members of our favorite WCW announcing trio, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Dusty Rhodes. The three announcers quickly talk about the ultimatum laid down by JJ Dillon for Sting to answer what he…

April 2, means it’s time to look at a match from each show, and there are some gems. First up is an Intercontinental Championship match from V with a shocking ending and an “I Quit Match” from XI. WrestleMania V and XI…
The WCW RetroView keeps on rolling this week with WCW Spring Stampede 1997. At our last show, WCW Uncensored 1997, the nWo was victorious in the three-team main event match. The victory gave them the power to challenge for any championship at any time going forward. But the big moment that came out of Uncensored was when Sting finally chose a side in the war for WCW’s soul. We open the show with our favorite WCW announcing trio – Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain Heenan, and Dusty Rhodes. They immediately bring up the growing tension between the nWo and how…
Well, WCW RetroView fans, we’ve made it to 1997. After a banner year in 1996, WCW was looking to start the new year off with a bang. Capitalizing on the popularity of the n.W.o, the company decided to put on the first-ever n.W.o themed pay-per-view. Bringing us to nWo Souled Out 1997. While great in concept, the overall execution leaves a lot to be desired. The show begins with black and white footage of the n.W.o riding through a snow-covered downtown Cedar Rapids. Leading the convoy of garbage trucks is a black limo, I can only assume has Hollywood Hulk…
RetroView fans, we are diving deep into the WCW library for today’s RetroView. It’s WCW Starrcade 1992: Battle Bowl – Lethal Lottery 2. We open the show with a fantastic, straight out of the early 90’s video package highlighting the rich history of WCW’s biggest event. It’s the tenth version of the annual event and this show has five championships on the line, including Ron Simmons defending the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against WCW United States Champion Rick Rude. Also, the NWA Heavyweight Championship is also on the line between Masahiro Chono and The Great Muta. The Lethal Lottery and BattleBowl…
“All right. We have seen the end of Hulkamania. For Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, for Dusty Rhodes, for “Mean” Gene Okerlund, I don’t know…I’m Tony Schiavone. Hulk Hogan, you can go to hell! We’re outta here. Straight to hell.” With those words, World Championship Wrestling lead announcer Tony Schiavone somberly concluded Bash at the Beach 1996. This was the birth of the nWo. The reason behind Schiavone’s impassioned damnation of Hulk Hogan is legendary. It was on this day 24 years ago that Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash formed the New World Order. It forever changed the landscape…
The Undertaker and Batista. Stealing the show is something you hear professional wrestlers talk about all the time. To steal the show means you and your opponent/s performed at such a high level that the main thing everyone talks about after the show is your match. Being in the main event is great; the top spot is something you earn, so not everyone gets this opportunity. However, stealing the show is something that can be done by any wrestler, given the right circumstances. Some, like Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles, do it because that’s what they’re known for. Others do…
Two separate April 2nd WrestleMania’s featured notable matches. Two matches that are on the opposite end of the wrestling spectrum: one was a triple threat and a Universal Championship. First, we have a technically brilliant triple-threat match from WrestleMania 2000, followed by a beastly showdown between two powerhouse wrestlers at WrestleMania 33. Triple Threat and A Universal Championship WrestleMania 2000 Two Falls Triple Threat Match Intercontinental and European Championships Kurt Angle (c) vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho The Build-Up Kurt Angle made his WWE debut at the 1999 Survivor Series event. Less than three months later, the Olympic Hero…

Today, we take a look back at the biggest event of WCW’s pay-per-view schedule, WCW Starrcade 1996. The final WCW pay-per-view of 1996 was a big one and it mainly centered around one match, Hogan versus Piper. We open the show with our favorite WCW trio on commentary. Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and Dusty Rhodes are all amped up for this show. Each mentions the big fight feel in the arena and all three…
This time, we’re taking a look at WCW World War 3 1996, which took place on November 24th, 1996. This was WCW’s annual November pay-per-view, featuring the three-ring, 60-man Battle Royal. Like its WWE contemporary, the Royal Rumble, the winner of this Battle Royal earns a World Heavyweight Championship match. Heading into this show, there are a few key stories of note. After a shocking debut at Halloween Havoc, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Hollywood Hulk Hogan are on a collision course. On the Nitro before this show, Eric Bischoff’s allegiance to the nWo was revealed by Piper. This was the…
