World Championship Wrestling fans, we are finally back. After a month’s hiatus, due to the WWE Network going kaput and Peacock slowly gaining vintage shows, we pick up on our WCW RetroView. Today we are looking at WCW Great American Bash 1997. Fresh off the heels of Slamboree, Hollywood Hogan is still AWOL as World Champion. The nWo is focused on the tag team titles as two icons look to take those titles away. Oh, and let’s not forget the Diamond Dallas Page – Macho Man Randy Savage rivalry is as hot as ever. ________________________ Our favorite announcing trio, Tony…

Like most independent professional wrestlers, the Queen Bee Brooke Valentine had to maneuver her way through a turbulent 2020. Travel bans, shows canceled, and promotions closed; it wasn’t easy for anyone making their name as an indie wrestler. Some took this as a sign to hang up their boots. Others used it to stay motivated, knowing the light at the end of the tunnel meant a return to performing in front of the masses. ______________________ Brooke Valentine used the time to heal up from some nagging injuries while reestablishing her love of professional wrestling. As a result, Manders has carved a path of bruised and broken bodies in his short but impressive career, traveling highways all across the country, from small-town fair shows to big city blockbusters. His travels this year alone have taken him to 28 different promotions across the United States. From Las Vegas to Philadelphia, Texas to Iowa, the “Cornbelt Cowboy” has seen a million faces and – to steal a line from his iconic entrance theme – has rocked them all. 1 Called…

Captain Midnight Guthrie. In this modern age of professional wrestling, some would say the manager’s role has become passe. You no longer see many charismatic mouthpieces standing in the corner of their chosen grapplers. Granted, WWE’s Paul Heyman is the current standard-bearer, but even he calls himself an advocate.  ______________ All Elite Wrestling has slowly started utilizing veteran wrestlers past their ring prime as cornermen for their younger stars. But even they call them coaches, not managers.  No, today’s wrestling is a far cry from the golden era of managers that was WWE during the 1980’s – a time where managers…

Once again it’s time for the next WCW RetroView. The choice to cover WCW’s prime years of pay-per-views came with the good, the bad, and the ordinary. WCW Slamboree 1997 falls under the latter.  Not to say this was a bad show by any means, this show is just kind of there. More of an attention seeking opportunity than storyline advancement.  Coming off the heels of a red hot Spring Stampede WCW entered Slamboree with the champion, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, still MIA. Hogan’s movie/TV schedule kept him away from WCW pay-per-view for a few months in 1997.  With Hogan not on the show,…
