#AndNEW: Rush captures ROH World Title

At last night’s Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor pay per view event, Rush defeated Matt Taven to capture the ROH World Title. The match itself provided fans watching an exciting combination of strikes. Coming into the match, Taven had received some criticism from the online wrestling community for how deserving he was to hold the championship. However, it can not be denied that Taven’s 175-day title reign provided for some stiff competition. He defeated some of the most notable challengers that Ring of Honor had to offer. After winning the championship at the G1 Supercard this past April, Rush faced Jeff Cobb, Jay Lethal and Flip Gordon. Despite the loss, Matt Taven will have the claim of being only the second ROH Grand Slam Champion holding each of its championships.

For Ring of Honor, this is a new direction that the company appears to be going with the talented Luchador. Often teaming with his brother Dragon Lee, Rush now stands alone atop the Ring of Honor mountain. Rush’s notoriety in the industry can be traced back to his time in Mexican promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) as part of the faction Los Ingobernables.  The faction branched out and become dominant in Japan as Los Ingobernables de Japon. Rush’s win comes just shy of his 31st birthday and it appears that he will be celebrating his new championship as he usher’s it in on September 29th.

Where does Ring of Honor go from here?

Madison’s Mindset: Many had been clamoring for Rush to be the person to carry the title moving forward for Ring of Honor. ROH fans hopes of a Rush championship reign have now come true. The biggest question moving forward is, who will challenge Rush moving for the ROH World Title? We suspect that Taven will want another opportunity to prove himself still deserving of the championship. Will Cobb, Lethal, Brody King and Gordon also be considered as challengers for the championship?
