AEW Dynamite IGNITE for 11/08/23 (Changing the Face of Full Gear?)

AEW Dynamite is back once again this Wednesday with plenty of important matches scheduled. Last week, we saw plenty of title matches and even more build for AEW Full Gear; this week is set to be no different as we preview AEW Dynamite IGNITE for 11/08/23!

The matches scheduled for Dynamite could change the face of Full Gear and the complexion of both AEW and Ring of Honor’s hierarchy. This week, both MJF and Jay White put something on the line in their respective matches, and Samoa Joe makes yet another defense of his Ring of Honor World TV Title.

Let us find out more about what’s sure to be another extraordinary Wednesday in Portland in this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite IGNITE.

Red Velvet vs. Julia Hart

Julia Hart returns to the ring for the first time in a month after her loss to Kris Statlander for the TBS Title at WrestleDream. She faces Red Velvet, who we haven’t seen in over nine months.

Last week, we saw Julia Hart appear after Willow Nightingale’s title match against Hikaru Shida to confront the former. However, Skye Blue then intervened and sprayed Julia Hart in the face with Hart’s signature mist in an identical move to what Hart had done to Skye Blue some time ago.

It’s still unclear exactly what’s going on with Skye Blue, but Julia Hart can’t risk letting that bother her too much going into her first match back on Dynamite.

Meanwhile, Red Velvet will be looking to make her name a regular on AEW television by picking up a win over Julia Hart. The last time we saw Red Velvet was in February when she lost to Jade Cargill in a TBS Title match.

Things have changed drastically since then but Red Velvet’s goal of claiming the TBS, or even the AEW Women’s, Title will no doubt still be the same.

Sting & Darby Allin vs. The Outrunners

The countdown to Sting’s retirement is well underway, and this week, we see him in tag team action with Darby Allin, the man he called “the best tag team partner he’s ever had.” The match will help the team prepare for Full Gear, where they and Adam Copeland take on Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne.

Sting and Darby Allin face The Outrunners, who have had multiple matches against the Gunns on Collision over the past few months. The team of Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd will look to make a name for themselves in AEW by knocking off the Icon and performer like Darby, and it’s within the realms of possibility while Christian Cage and his stooges lurk in the shadows.

This match was a late addition to this week’s Dynamite card, but getting to see Sting in action is a luxury we will soon be without, and no one will be complaining at this extra match.

Tony Schiavone Sitdown Interview Hikaru Shida & Toni Storm

Ahead of their AEW Women’s World Championship match at Full Gear, Hikaru Shida will sit down with her challenger, Toni Storm, as Tony Schiavone conducts an interview with the two.

Shida has defended her title frequently since defeating Saraya at Title Tuesday, most recently against Willow Nightingale in a match that saw Toni Storm and her new butler Luther make another appearance after its conclusion.

Shida, clearly fed up of Toni Storm stealing her spotlight, flew in to wipe out Toni Storm with a knee before chasing her backstage.

These days it’s difficult to make much sense of what Toni Storm has to say but Tony Schiavone will try his best to get some answers. As per Tony Khan, Toni Storm has only agreed to this interview if she is filmed exclusively in the black and white that she has become synonymous with since becoming Timeless.

Swerve Strickland vs. Penta El Zero Miedo

Last week on Dynamite, we saw Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana arrive to taunt Hangman Adam Page during his Ring of Honor Six-Man Championship defense with the Young Bucks against the Mogul Embassy.

With Hangman still enraged by their prior actions, Hangman left the Young Bucks high and dry to chase Swerve and Nana to the backstage area, resulting in a loss for the Elite and a title victory for the Modul Embassy. Now Swerve is back in action on Dynamite after a successful Collision outing against former ally AR Fox.

Swerve faces Penta, who enjoyed a victory in the thrilling Lucha del Día de los Muertos triple threat on Rampage against fellow Luchadores Komander & El Hijo del Vikingo. With emotions high in Hangman Adam Page’s camp, will he or the Bucks get involved in the match and cost Swerve the victory?

Or will we see what should otherwise be a fantastic bout between two remarkable competitors run from start to finish without any issue?

Mark Briscoe vs. Jay White

After making his triumphant return on Collision last Saturday, Mark Briscoe faces Switchblade Jay White in a one-on-one match with Jay White’s AEW World Title shot against MJF at Full Gear on the line.

Jay White still has possession of the AEW World Title and picked up a pinfall victory over AEW World Champion MJF last week when MJF reluctantly teamed with the Acclaimed and Daddy Ass against Bullet Club Gold.

Despite having the momentum on his side and a numbers advantage going into the match, Jay White must stay vigilant against a former Tag Team Champion in multiple promotions worldwide.

Mark Briscoe will be looking to use this match as a springboard to the top of the singles ladder in AEW and prove that he is just as good on his own as he is in a team.

Samoa Joe (c) vs. Keith Lee
(ROH World TV Championship)

Recently, Samoa Joe became the longest-reigning Ring of Honor World TV Champion in history, and there’s no better way to celebrate such an accolade with a title defence. Samoa Joe is still in pursuit of a rematch with MJF for the AEW World Title and has offered MJF his services in return for the rematch.

That being said, Joe has been defending the gold he has regularly in the meantime. In October, Joe made three successful title defences with the total run-time of all three matches combined being under thirteen minutes.

His opponent, Keith Lee, won’t just be looking to last longer than Joe’s former challengers, though. He has a number of quick victories on Collision under his own belt, and he’ll want to continue that dominance into a title reign. Both he and Joe are both powerful performers, and we’re sure to be in for an intense bout.

We’ll Hear From the Golden Jets Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega

Ahead of their street fight next week, we’ll hear from Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. They team with Kenny Omega’s longtime friend Kota Ibushi and, as per last week’s announcement, the Giant Paul Wight against four members of the Don Callis Family.

With Don Callis hell-bent on ending the careers and tarnishing the legacies of Jericho and Omega, it’s clear that the two will need to be prepared for anything heading into the match.

It’s unclear what the two will have to say ahead of the match, but they will no doubt make it clear to Callis that they will do whatever they have to so that they can put an end to Callis’ “Family” following their frequent attacks.

MJF (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
(AEW World Championship)

It wasn’t the easiest episode of Dynamite for MJF last week. His episode-long search for a trio to take on Bullet Club Gold with ended in him reluctantly accepting the Acclaimed and Daddy Ass’ offer. Dressed in the Acclaimed’s signature hot pink ring gear, MJF fell to Jay White after being hit with the Blade Runner.

With just over a week to go before MJF’s match with Jay White at Full Gear, Daniel Garcia called out MJF for a title match this past week on Rampage, which brings us to this match.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of tension between Daniel Garcia and some of the other former Jericho Appreciation Society members, but a title victory for Garcia could set the likes of Magic, Ang, and Hager back on track and back on the same page.

There’s also the question of whether the masked figure dubbed ‘The Devil’ will make their presence and true intentions known before Full Gear, something Daniel Garcia may need to keep an eye on going into the match.

What To Expect:

  • Will we have a new champion crowned this Wednesday?
  • Will the individual in the Devil mask make their presence felt again?
  • Will we learn of any new matches for AEW Full Gear?
