In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso, Becky Lynch spoke of her recent rise to the top and how since capturing the Raw and Smackdown Live women’s championship she has yet to relent to its pressures. If anything she has continued to push forward with who she is as an athlete and as a professional.
“After WrestleMania, I didn’t go on vacation,” I got an hour of sleep, then I got up and did morning media. That’s all I’ve ever wanted—to run on dreams, hard work, and adrenaline.”
That adrenaline has long been what fans have seen in her and knew she could achieve given the opportunity. Lynch has been transparent along the way as well, never hiding from how much this means to her and how much she cares about this chance. She knows too well the feelings of having others being given opportunities ahead of her.
“I’ve got nothing to hide. I’ve obsessed about this and I’ve wanted it for so long, and I know what it’s like to sit in the back and watch other people get opportunities while I wanted to be doing what I love more than anything in the entire world. And I had to sit there in catering and watch that? That is a horrible feeling.”
Lynch wasn’t going to allow the online discourse of word between her and Rhonda Rousey sway her. She wasn’t going to allow it to discredit her, her profession and everything she had worked so hard to achieve.
“This is the toughest line in the world, but we do it because we love it. Ronda Rousey did it for a year but she couldn’t hack it. This is not easy, and no other athlete works as hard as we do. But it’s not so hard when you love it.
Lynch is determined to increase the value of the Raw and Smackdown Live women’s divisions and do so with the fire and passion that is becoming of a champion.
“I refuse to take a second of this for granted. I want to lift both shows, raise both shows, and make WWE must-see TV.”
