AEW Rampage for 8/26/22 (ROH Championship Match)

This week’s preview of AEW Rampage for 8/26/22 comes on the heels of an interesting edition of AEW Dynamite. On this past week’s show, we saw a new unified AEW Champion crowned, and the AEW Trios tournament showcased another team advance. As a result, there are four matches on tap for this coming week.

Two of those matches are championship matches; one will determine one of the semi-finalists of the Trios tournament, and the final one as a grudge match. Of the four matches announced, which ones are you most looking forward to? Here is the AEW Rampage preview for 8/26/22.

    Mixed Tag Team Match
Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo vs. Ortiz and Ruby Soho

The newlyweds and current AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champions face two people hell-bent on revenge against them. As member’s of the Jericho Appreciation Society, Ortiz had his head shaved, and Soho had her wrist broken. What would have been nice is if the Mixed Tag titles are on the line, but that isn’t the case.

Outside of being close ties to Eddie Kingston, it will be a bit of an adjustment to see Ortiz without Santana. Will their styles clash here, with all four of them battling each other? On the surface, one could be skeptical that Ortiz and Soho haven’t teamed together all that match going into this contest.

House of Black vs. Dark Order & ??

As evident in the graphic, there is one person on Dark Order’s team that hasn’t been announced. The interesting part here is if it is who many speculate it is going to be. A circulating rumor is that Silver and Reynold’s third man is none other than ‘Hangman’ Page. Whether or not that is the case won’t be confirmed upon his entrance.

But if it is Page, it makes CM Punk’s calling him out earlier all the more puzzling. When The Young Bucks approached him asking him if he’d be their third, and he declined, his reason made sense. He said it was because he’d be supporting the Dark Order. But was that because he’d be teaming with the Dark Order or on the sidelines cheering them on?

If he supports them on the sidelines, does that mean he has a more prominent role at All Out? It all seems that much more stranger as more questions about Page are in the air leading into All Out.

    TNT Championship Open Challenge
    Wardlow (c) vs. Ryan Nemeth

It’s a unique challenge as Nemeth isn’t typically seen on either Rampage or Dynamite. So while he’s likely been of value on Dark or Elevation, unless fans are watching that or the Young Buck’s Being The Elite YouTube show, it isn’t typical to see him in action. That said, a match and subsequent win here by Wardlow is essentially to help elevate him even moreso going into All Out.

As fans are aware, this past week on Dynamite that it was revealed that Wardlow and FTR will battle Jay Lethal and former multi-time IMPACT Wrestling champions, the Motor City Machine Guns, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. Could we see Lethal, Dutt, and Singh all play a part in this match?

    ROH World Championship
Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs Dustin Rhodes

For as many years as Dustin Rhodes has been competing, there has yet to be a time where he competed for Ring of Honor or competed for any of the promotion’s championships. While the early argument is that this championship had little to no build, it does present a man with a championship pedigree behind him against the current champion.

Castagnoli has deemed it that he will actively defend the Ring of Honor World Championship. For Rhodes, fans likely have a sentimental feeling for him and his place in AEW. There likely isn’t a belief that he will capture the championship. But that isn’t to say it won’t be a competitive match with two veterans, both with ties to the WWE. Does this match open the door for another challenger to step up to Castagnoli ahead of All Out?

    What To Expect

    • We hear from TBS Champion Jade Cargill
