As another week rolls on with the WWE NXT preview for 01/27/21, so does the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. While the next round of the Dusty Classic for the men’s continues and the first round for the women’s continues, that isn’t all fans can anticipate. The growing animosity has turned a rivalry into a team. Kyle O’Reilly and Finn Balor have traded jaw injuries. Now the two will put the verbal jawing to rest. This week, Balor and O’Reilly come together to take out Pete Dunne’s allies in Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Will a clear message be sent to Dunne, Lorcan, and Burch at the hands of Balor and O’Reilly? With Stallion coming to The Lucha House Party’s aid, a championship opportunity later presented itself. Stallion has been granted a WWE Cruiserweight Championship opportunity against Legado Del Fantasma leader, Santos Escobar.

Finn Balor & Kyle O’Reilly vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch
The cat came back the very next day. At least that may be the belief as Finn Balor was forced to find a partner as he faces Lorcan and Burch. On the heels of an attack to O’Reilly by Dunne, Lorcan, and Burch, Balor has also been in their sights as well. Dunne wants a piece of Balor and the NXT Championship. However, before that does take place, Balor will be sure to eliminate both Burch and Lorcan from the equation. That could equally work itself out with the help of O’Reilly. The on-going narrative taking place involves a few different things. They include; the challenge of Dunne, O’Reilly’s jaw, the mutual respect/distrust between Balor and O’Reilly. Will O’Reilly and Balor get the better of Lorcan and Burch?

NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Quarterfinals
MSK vs. Drake Maverick & Killian Dain
The debut of MSK led to a surprise win as well. With that win came their advancing to the next round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They will be hard-pressed to pick up a win as the odd couple pairing of Dain and Maverick have come together to find a comradery that fans of NXT are quickly picking up on. MSK have been a tandem for quite awhile. The former Rascalz are looking to mirror their success that they had prior to joining NXT. For Dain and Maverick, their formula of using Maverick as a weapon to beat on the opposition seems to be their system. Will that system continue to work? Carter and Lee will need to use their speed and agility to outrun Dain and their tandem offense to take out Maverick.
NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Quarterfinals
Grizzled Young Veterans vs. KUSHIDA & Leon Ruff
The other quarter-finals match involves the former NXT UK Tag Team Champions and a tandem that picked up a surprising win the previous week. Drake and Gibson are the longstanding veteran tag team that are as familiar with their own skillsets as they are with each other. KUSHIDA and Ruff surprised the NXT Universe and, more importantly, Gargano and Theory with their win. Could that surprising win last week lead those that suffered a bitter defeat to seek vengeance? It very well could be their way to gain some semblance of balance. Drake and Gibson don’t need anyone to have to come to their aid or do them any favors, but it could happen regardless. Who will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament?
WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Santos Escobar (c) vs Stallion
As mentioned earlier, Escobar will be defending his title against Stallion. However, over the course of the week, Escobar has been quite vocal on social media as to how good he is in comparison to everyone else. These comments got the ire of a number of those in the promotion. So while he’s likely laid the foundation of what or who could be next for him, he best give Stallion the attention he deserves. It is likely the remaining members of Legado Del Fantasma will be kept at bay by Lucha House Party. Escobar could be facing his greatest threat for the title to date, and best be aware of what a loss here means. While the loss of the title is an issue, Escobar may face a list of men looking to keep him quiet moving forward.
