DDT Pro Wrestling, one of Japan’s top independent wrestling federations, announced that it has canceled on if its largest annual events. Wrestle Peter Pan 2020 due to pandemic outbreak.
The event was originally scheduled to take place on June 7th, 2020, at the Saitama Super Arena. This would have been the 12th edition of the annual event and the second under the ‘Wrestle Peter Pan’ name.
DDT, like most wrestling promotions, is no longer hosting live events due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic. Like most promotions in the Japanese wrestling market, a large portion of their revenue comes from live events.
The company’s statement reads as follows:
[Important Notice] Based on the spread of the new coronavirus infection and other factors, we have decided to cancel the June 7 Saitama Super Arena Tournament. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers. The alternative schedule is currently being adjusted.
DDT Pro-Wrestling is owned by parent company CyberAgent, which also owns Pro Wrestling NOAH. It’s famous for being one of the ‘wackier’ wrestling companies in Japan and in general. It was in DDT that Kenny Omega wrestled a 9-year-old girl, and it was there that Kota Ibushi had his infamous match with YOSHIHIKO the wrestling sex blow-up doll.
DDT Pro-Wrestling Cancels Wrestle Peter Pan 2020 Event
Some of the company’s less wacky features also include their version of the 24/7 Championship. It is called the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship. At the present time it has 1,479th titleholder. It has also hosted a wrestling match between a ladder and a table. They’ve taken the ‘sports entertainment’ style of WWE’s presentation and added a Japanese twist to it.
Although the big Peter Pan event was cancelled, there is still plenty of DDT content to be viewed on their on-demand service, DDT Universe. This service also includes wrestling content belonging to their sister and affiliate promotions, including NOAH, Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling, Union Pro-Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Basara.
