In a night dedicated to former HOG superstar Matt Travis, there was nothing but good vibes and some star-studded appearances throughout the event. But even with a Nintendo Switch Street Fighter V match taking place in the middle of the ring, it was the main event of the night that left a shock on the Queens, New York crowd. The impressive reign of Crown Jewel champion Mantequilla has officially ended on Saturday as the returning TJ Perkins has captured HOG Crown Jewel Championship in House of Glory.

The win gives the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion his first independent title win since leaving the Connecticut based company in his first HOG title match since facing Anthony Gangone for the same title, when it was known as the HOG Elite Championship, back in 2015. For Mantequilla, he ends his reign at 338 days as champion, a record longest reigning champion of the title’s short lineage.
From tweets and response across social media, this was said to be one of the best matches of the night which makes sense for Mantequilla who had an amazing match with Evander James for the title many months ago. Same goes for TJP, who since leaving WWE, has put on some classic matches in Japan, the UK, and of course here in the states with Impact Wrestling.
Only time will tell if these two men will face again as HOG has already announced their next event, House of Glory 9, as they celebrate their 9 year anniversary since opening their famed doors. This event, taking place on December 7th, will also feature the return of the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair to the NYC Arena as well.

Caul’s Call
The old saying goes “if I was a betting man…” works at this moment right here. TJ Perkins getting the win and capturing the HOG Crown Jewel Championship was one of the most difficult decisions as I expected, mentally, Mantequilla to retain. However, the win made sense as TJP continues to redefine his career since re-entering the independent scene earlier this year. While the reign may not be long, I do expect him to be a constant fixture in HOG under their new ownership. And with Ric Flair being booked for the show, I expect Master P and his ownership team to continue to improve the look of the Queens-based independent company.
