In a recent article by the Statesmen, it was revealed that former WWE superstar and world champion, Mark Henry was showcasing that he is a champion inside and out of the ring. Henry wanted to give back in preparation for Father’s day for those in need. It was his plan to give free haircuts for the homeless in the area of Austin, Texas under the Interstate 35 overpass at Sixth Street today. The event is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with local barbers, headed by Chuck Smith of Legendary Cuts, on hand to provide haircuts.
“When you look good, you feel good. People want to feel presentable. Some are mentally ill and drug-dependent and some are not. I don’t have the resources to get out and figure out who is who, but I want to get out and hopefully touch the ones who want to be touched.”
Mark Henry has seen far too many instances of homeless and no sight of a reprieve in sight for his fellow Austinites as he drives through the city. Henry teamed up with Austin Area Urban League President and CEO Quincy Dunlap to make this generous gesture come true.
“There is a lot more that can be done. People out there need our help. Jesus washed the feet of others. Why shouldn’t we?”
Madison’s Mindset: While this isn’t a wrestling story it certainly is a story of goodwill and as a Father myself, it is difficult not to see the moral value that this gesture has the potential to make today of all day’s. Beyond all of Henry’s Olympic and professional wrestling achievements, it becomes parallel that his duty to give back is more important than anything else.
His goodwill has been embraced by those in the community and is a way to give back to those that want to look good and feel good. His act should be shared and if you are in the area hopefully you can aid in these efforts as well.
